Rivera Rockcrusher or Torpedo Reload?

Hi!

Which one would you suggest?

I will be using to:
-Classic attenuator to play through a cab (which rules out the Torpedo Live)
-Recording from the line out of the attenuator to my interface using an cab simulator (i already have the Two Notes Wall of Sound plugin).
-Should be able to record silent or with a cab connected.

The Rockcrusher is much cheaper and I have read a lot of posts on this forum recommending it so I would rather for this one, but my concerns are:
-Will the recorded sound using the Rivera and the Two Notes WoF simulator be of the same quality as with the Torpedo Reloaded?
-As an attenuator (bedroom playing or live) does the pricier Torpedo offer better results and has less sound coloration?

The amps I would be using are a Dual Rectifier and a mini Rectifier.

The Rockcrusher also doesn't require a power cable which is a plus as I will be using it in different countries.

Thanks in advance for your help!

What speaker load will you be using? I know the rockcrusher does an 8 or 16ohm load. The mesa amps probably support 8 or 4ohm loads. Just something to add to your consideration list.

I'll be using 8 ohms on both amps so the rockcrusher can handle it. The fact that the reload can handle any load and run a head and a cab with a different load is nice though

I just got my RockCrusher in and will be trying it out this weekend. Server crashes at work have delayed me a but. I must say, a friend of mine has been posting some recordings he has done with it using Wall Of Sound for cab impulses and it sounds legit. I got the regular RockCrusher, not the "Recording" model as the eq on front adds no value for me. All eq'ing can be done in my DAW.

As an attenuator on it's own, it won out over the Bad Cat or Weber offerings for me personally. Feels like a tank!

Can't speak for the Reload, but the Crusher is a pretty damn awesome attenuator. Colors the sound WAY less than any other attenuator I've ever personally tried (HotPlate, Weber).

the torpedo thing sounds like it makes many men happy. i bet i could find happiness with it too.

BUT i kinda struggle with the idea of turning your amplifier head into a glorified distortion box. seems like an awful lot of extra weight and trouble.

i love the idea of great cranked up tone at any volume, but NO volume is cray cray. then again i am old and stubborn and clinging to dinosaurs.

men i love enjoy speaker air punching them in the face and nether regions, so they can raise one fist dominantly as they hold a power chord, simultaneously scowling as if in pain.

That's exactly how I use the rockcrusher and I love it. I use it either to knock down the volume a little for playing or recording or using the line out into the wos plugin. I have the first version without the speaker sim on board.

Thanks a lot for the answers! I guess the rockcrusher will do all of the things i need. The extra features on the torpedo won't justify it's price for me since I only need attenuation and DI. I'll be getting the normal version since i'll be using cab simulation on my DAW. Moreover the sliders for EQ/Cab simulation on the Rockcrusher Recording seem way less user friendly than the WoS plugin.

and for those of you who have the rockcrusher, how would you record silently? Put it on 'studio' mode and turn the volume to minimum? Or can it work without a cab connected? I know it is a loadbox but there is no switch to go from attenuator to 'silent/loadbox'.

small HV tube based preamps and the two notes CAB are the way to go. Carry your rig in your bag or pedalboard case. A magnum 44 poweramp or similar if you want to drive an onstage cabinet.
