Played a RIVERA TBR1 SL today and was throughly impressed. Was looking for input on others thoughts and any knowledge lurking around the form on their good and bad points.

How much?

I've had 3 of them , well 2- TBR-1SL, 1 TBR-2SL.

Fucking kick ass, AMAZINGLY versitile.

Yup...I LOVE my TBR-1SL. It's one of the few amps out there that can truly go from Fendery clean to Marshally gain. Throw an SD1 in front and look out! Is there anything particular you wanted to know about them?

Shit man I NEVER used a boost with any of mine.... Hell the P-comp used with Humbuckers (which I know is not it's purpose) makes for a great booster as well, TOO many options  All the push/pull knobs etc....

The thing has SHITLOADS of gain.

Price is unknown at the moment since they just got the amp in. I am first in line though.

Any idea on what prices would range for?

Details: Unit has some wear and rack rash but is clean otherwise. They are going through the tubes and some testing and will let me know. For the short time I got to play with it I was just amazed.

$800-$1000 lately.....

I got mine for $450. $500

:D

But that was 10 years ago or better.

They are built like a tank, and are awesome, they really are. I'm currently rocking a TBR-5 as a power amp, and it destroys small village without blinking an eyelid :D

agreed...it has more then enough gain on tap. I'm just a boost freak.

I pretty much use the SD1 as a clean boost...

Skid Row... Slave to the Grind.

I understand the rythyms were all done with Rivera TBR's!!

Awesome tones!

Keith

Actually, the Slave to the Grind disc was recorded with an M100.

Listen to any of the first 3 Saigon Kick discs and it's all TBR-1SL. Jason used a DS-1 for a boost to "smooth things out." At least that's what he told me when I asked him about his setup for the SK albums.

guitarslinger, It was at a local music store and the manager is friend that I jam with. He called me shortly after the guy traded it in for a PRS.

I am curious if anybody can tell me what the difference is between a TBR-1 and 2 SL's?

and is there anything that I should be careful or on the look out for that might be a concern or problem down the road?

TBR1SL is 60 watts a side amd the TBR2SL is 120 watts a side. They are both EXTREMEMLY loud.

other than that they are identicle, and built like fucking tanks.

The differences are in the "M" and "SL" The M is the mellower of the two, is got alot less gain, etc... cant remember off the top of my head what the "M" stands for, but the SL shoud be pretty easy "super lead".

There were the original TBR1 (My first one) that had no designation, it was before they made the 2 different versions and it's an "SL".

Hope this helps.

Yes it was quite helpful as the Rivera website is not really at all...

Looks like I would prefer the TBR1SL over the 2 as it is overkill for me. I am going back later today to and play that TBR1 some more.

remember there are TONS of controls to play with, push/pull knobs etc.... take your time with it.

Tons or mega tons? OMG, this amp is so versatile ! I played with it for 2 hours almost but only in mono :( Apparently the B channel has a problem and one of the EL34's is pretty much toast. We tried it while I was there and there is a noticeable difference and started to clip really bad at low volume.

I was also told that 2 of the 12ax7's probably need to be replaced also.

So my question is: Should I just replace all the EL34's with new matched sets and 12ax7's, but how do you match 7 12ax7's too?

I am also gonna have to find or build a channel switch box. Anybody have a diagram?

Well I called on Monday and left a message... No reply yet.

The tech at the store called them also on Monday and I hope they at least return the call from the store soon.

Sorry Juggernaut, your info is wrong. I'm reading the TBR manual right now. I have a TBR-3 power amp.

There ARE 3 versions of the TBR-1 and TBR-2.

no designation - lowest gain of the 3.

M designation - "M model is designed for musicians seeking a sweeter and fatter tone than the standard model TBR"

SL designation - "Super Lead model is designed for the player seeing the ultimate heavy metal crunch tone."

Also, the TBR-2 models are 160 watts per side, not 120. They have the same power section as the TBR-5 Hammer 320 power amp.
