RJM RG-16 NOISE!!!!

Doesn't the RG16 have a ground lift switch internally? I could have sworn it did.....Might wanna try that. I get no noise using the RG16 with my M4 preamp and an amp head. Like I said in my earlier post, I have the buffer circuit physically connected to a loop which got rid of the ground loop due to it being an active circuit. I don't use the internal buffer except for this function, I didn't find the need for it.
Steve is describing the best way to find your issue--Step by Step, one piece of gear at a time until you find the cause.

Thanks guys, but I actually think it may be the RG-16 because I had the bones only plugged in bypassing the loop as said and I don't get hum with my volume all the way down but as soon as I crack the knob on guitar... buzz!! So I'm thinking its the guitar so I bypass the RG all together and go in the front of the bones with only the fan out cable from bones to RG for switching and its dead quiet. Basically seems as if any part of the audio side of the switcher adds terrible noise!

Yeah muudrock when I realized that I thought for sure my problem was solved, but no it wasn't

Dan,

I got your diagram. There's two things that would make a flag go up for me to check.

1) You've spent a wad to isolate the two amps on the RG and the Y-Not. Then, behind that in loop 8 you reintroduce audio signal back to the RG in the form of the delay in the first amp's FX loop. Try your rig up without the delay in the FX loop.

2) What are the 3 pedals in front of the amps?

Steve

Hey guys keep the good ideas coming! I'm not the most patient person if y'all haven't noticed... However you guys are being so cool I'm gonna try and get this shit, and it certainly helps that the tone from this rig is amazing! SERIOUSLY thanks to my RT brethren!!!
 :D

Still thinking. But, to clarify:

1 - you are using the Pedal Power for the Y-Not and a wall wort for the RG correct?

2 - the Koko dipswitches are set for BUFFER OFF and TRUE Bypass?

3 - no rheostats, track lighting, ceiling fans in the room?

4 - one other thing is to hook all your pedals just as you have them and output from loop 5 to the Y-Not and try using it for splitting and ISO. I know you are using the mod for phase control. But, let's sort the buzz first, then tackle phase control. See if this helps the problem.

5 - do like me and run a wet/dry rig instead of everything in front of both amps, run all FX into one of the amps, then your highest gainer dry.

6 - i still think the problem comes down to multiple buffers, something underpowered, impedance mismatch. Just got to find it.

Steve

Cool Steve, I will definitely try that with the y-not. I'm working nights all week so Saturday I should be able to jump back in it, and I will try that. Just to clarify I can see running the chorus and delay in the loop but I would like the boost to be out front of both if possible. Plus I don't see how you could boost one and not the other out front.
Actually boosting the DSL is necessary but not so much for the bones. It just sounds insanely good boosting both with the mid boost at 12 and the clean boost just cracked open so as not to color the tone of either amp.

Well guys the problem is solved... it cost me less than $5. I thought everything was isolated from rack but I went ahead and grabbed a pack of humfrees and put them in and problem solved. Can't believe all this time that fixed it!! Thanks everyone for any Assistance given, you guys RULE!!!

AWESOME!!!!! So glad to hear that Dan. I'm sure you have a whole new appreciation for guys that do rack stuff for a living

Cheers,
Mike

I helped Dan with some troubleshooting after we installed the humfrees. and yeah if I were say, Dave Freidman, I would have blown my brains out by now.
that was a crazy amount of wires in dan's rig....and it's not even that complicated.
after taking that experience and then thinking of a rig like Petrucci....oh god....*BLAM*

most definitely, thanks for all your assistance Mike, a true class act!! I'm thankful neeklaus has more patience than me as well, I was about ready to hulk smash! If the marshall was as quiet as the Fortin I would have virtually no noise other than a small high gain hiss.
