Hello Everyone,

I am very new to multiple piece guitar rigs and have decided to delve into experimenting with a rack setup. I just purchased a used Rocktron V300 off of ebay and am using it with my Line 6 PODHD500. My setup runs as follows: Guitar into POD, POD XLR out into Rocktron V300 1/4 in, Rocktron 1/4 out into and 8 ohm cab. This 8 ohm cab in this instance was a friends Marshall VS412. This is the only cab i have tried this setup with and I could not escape a constant hum that would increase as I would increase the volume of the power amp. Is this the cab? My amp? My cable setup? Thanks for your time

It shouldn't be the Velocity 300, I use one, my rig is Guitar> Rocktron Voodu Valve> BBE 461 Sonic Maximizer> Rocktron Velocity 300> Genz Benz G-Flex 2x12 cab. I've used it in mono and stereo at bedroom volumes, with no hum at all.

You may want try the components separately, can you put the POD through another amp using the POD as the preamp and the same cab to see if it also produces the hum.

Best of luck.

I purchased my rocktron used. The fan does not come on when I turn the unit on. I have tried just straight headphones into the pod and there is no hum. Positive it's not the amp?

Try different cables maybe? Plug things into different outlets? Just a couple ideas.

I had a V300, and from what I remember, it was pretty quiet.

It could be the amp, my rack is in a case, so I'm not sure if my fan comes on right away. You can try contacting Rocktron support, Jim is amazing, I've asked him several questions and he has always been fast to answer with great advice (quite literally I sent him an e-mail and he responded in less than 5 minutes :D ) and he's never asked for any of the serial number/warranty verification stuff.

The best way is to try and isolate the problematic component by swapping components one at a time, cables, etc. If you're buddy has an amp, run the POD through the amp, bypassing the amps preamp with the same cables and cab, if there is no hum than the Velocity is probably the the issue or conversely if one of your buddies has another preamp swap his in instead of the POD and see if there is a difference.

Just some thoughts, best of luck.

Thank you for the responses. I do have a 75 watt line 6 spider but it's a combo amp. How do I bypass the preamp with the cables I have to test if it is my pod?

If it has an effects loop, plug the Pod into the return.
