Anyone use these in their guitars? Anyone notice a noticeable difference in there tone when swapping out the electronics to a RS kit?

I did a modern kit in my lespaul but didn't care for the caps that came stock with the kit,I kept the OD's but a definite difference when using the whole kit but I replaced 300k with 500k pots also. But the pots were far better than the stock gibsons

Theres a big difference if you like clarity and if you ride the volume knob when you play. I think the kits are great and worth the upgrade. I love them in my Les Pauls.

Clarity and a usable volume knob sounds good :) I had a guitar with it already wired so I didn't know how big a difference it made, but when I dropped in Aldrich's into my previous LP with the RS kit that thing had tone!

Yore better off buying the parts separately and making a customized "kit" yourself.

use CTS or Bourns pots, high qualitywire and then pick the caps of your audio preference.

my guitars were wired with these "kit" parts and have never sounded better:

CTS precision tolerance Pot:

Solid Silver or Oxygen free Copper Teflon coated 22 gauge wire:

(I used and prefer the silver but too pricey for some. the copper is much cheaper and excellent also.)

Mojotone paper in oil capacitors

I don't really know enough about guitar electronics to figure out what caps I need. But the rest seems to be straight forward. I just like the idea of a drop in Kit where I don't really have to solder much together.

A buddy of mine has a Tele kit from them and loves it. It brought his Mexican Tele to life.

I need to get some good pots, everything I have right now is on it's last leg. I have been using CAT5 copper stranded wire for a while now and it works really good and is pretty cheap. You should give it a try and see what you think. It's basically stranded copper wire with Teflon coating.

I have heard good things about cat 5 vs buying regular copper wire.

I have been using the silver though and I love it so I'm not going back to copper.

just use the same values as the kit you were looking at.

if you want clear/crisp use orange drops

http://www.guitarelectronics.com/catego ... apacitors/

or mustard caps.

if you want smooth/warmer/woody use the paper in oil above.

as long as your upgrading cap quality they will all work just fine.

I like them a lot.
I used them in all my guitars except for my CS strat, which already had quality parts (all i did was change the cap with a nice vintage one)

Awesome, thanks for all the advice. Looks like for the price of 1 KIT, I was able to order enough parts for 2 guitars. Went with the things you recommended and the Mojotone POI caps. Now I need to find a diagram for all this. Any place I can find one?

Thanks! Is there a reason why there is such a huge price difference between the Mojotone POI caps vs the ones that are included in the RS kits, seems on the RS Store they are charging $42 for the Luxe Bumblebee caps . How big of a difference does it make if you use the Mojo POI vs the Jensen or Luxe ones? I read some threads where some people said it isn't noticeable when it's going in your guitar vs an amp or something else.

The bumblebees are NOS so that is why they command such a high price.

I have only compared the mojotone paper in oil to some really old non bumblebee NOS PIO caps I had and I found them to sound the same to my ear in the same guitar. As you said in high voltage applications they may be more noticeable.

As you can tell by the solid silver wire I spare no expense when wiring my guitars and If I really thought the NOS caps were better Id be using them.

I really like the way the Mojo's sound and they are affordable as well.

The only real way to tell if you like them is to try them and let your own ear decide, hell, you may find you don't like PIO at all and prefer metal film or poly caps.

I think the WCR kits sound better then the RS kits, IMO, plus you can get them to adjust the tension on the pots as well.

The RS kits are a rip off.

I don't know that I would go that far :dunno:

Its obvious the intent was to make a profit and for the complete novice they seem to be fairly "drop in".

However, it is true you can outfit your guitar with the best electronics and such available for less money.

I think I got the picture resized to a good size..

One guitar down!

Went with what moltenmetalburn suggested and put together my own "kit" Easier than I expected to wire it up. Put in a set of SD Antiquity Hum's from my Edwards into here, went for the Vintage 50's style wiring. I opened up the Edwards and it looks like the electronics are pretty good in that, so I might just swap the caps in the Edwards and put in my set of WCR's in there.
