I know it comes with ch"a" 6l6's and ch"b" el34's
but can it run with 6l6's in both channels or 6550's in both channels?
I have have my el34 class a & ab covered with a 2/50/2(although I haven't compared it to the RT2/50 w/ el34's but I suspect the fryette 2/50/2 will out preform the RT2/50 w/ EL34's will see on thurs............)
I'm really not happy with the T/D channel "a" and can't wait to hear it the
way it was designed and thats through a 6l6 power section
Channel b however is an absolute meltdown I love it through the fryette
I'm generaly happy with the fryette but think it can't fully satisfy all the
egnater modules which is understandable and can sound thin some times
So I will have a RT2/50 at the studio to compare and maybe keep if it preforms well
Hey Michael Wagener has one!

Well...I'll tell ya....I have owned the 2/50/2 and 2/90/2...and I sold my 2/90/2 after getting a RT2/50 and putting them side by side for 3-4 weeks. I liked the RT2/50 better IMHO. I think you'll be surprised that the RT/250 will perform just as well as the Fryette / VHT power amp. Add the bias points on it...and that the RT/250 can take any power tube (minus things like EL84s...etc) natively...is just awesome.

I personally run my RT2/50 in stereo w/ Svetlana 6550Cs in it. LOVE it to death!!

You can run EL34s on one side...6550s on the other...all EL34s...all 6L6's...etc...you mix and match!!!

There's a reason people are flocking to these w/ the M4 preamp. They are just THAT good :)

I have some 6550c's coming too
and I'm off work till jan 4
Why did you get rid of the 2/50/2?
I can understand the 2/90/2 being it's sort of redundant
with kt88's/6550
The 2/50/2 makes me a better player(very hifi sounding)
kind of like how a tele made me better player
Theres just no hiding from bad technique or mistakes
they are right out in the open
But when I'm nailing it the pay back is tenfold

Did the showdown between my 2/50/2 and 2/90/2 and the 2/50/2 for me personally was the right way to go. I had my amp tech change the bias resistor on the 2/50/2 to allow for 6550s and biased 6550s in the 2/50/2 vs the 2/90/2. The 2/90/2 was a clear winner for that. Secondly, I've been more of a 6550 guy than a E34L or EL34, so that's why I ended up using the 2/90/2. I thought the 2/90/2 was beefier, was bigger, and more clarity. The 2/50/2 was always stuffy (w/ and w/o 6550s) and a bit congested compared to the 2/90/2. The RT2/50 is a blend of the 2/90/2 and the Mod50's power section. Big, bold, yet spongy when it needs to be, and warm and articulate. Since that power amp can take virtually ANY power tube vs the 2/50/2 and 2/90/2 and it has front mounted bias points, it beat out the VHT in my book. Tonally also. I did tons of side by side testing, and the VHT lost in feel. Tone was similar...but the feel was quite different. The RT2/50 felt more like an amp with my M4.
