So I have been curious about running drive pedals at different voltages. Now that I have a couple of power supplies than can do 12V and 18V its possible.
In the past I had tried the Timmy at 12V and liked it, but it went on my board that just had a 9V daisy chain, so that is how I have been running it. I also tested the Barber Dirty Bomb at 18V and found that I preferred it 9V, where it sounded aggressive, which is what I wanted from that pedal. DB has since been sold.

So I decided to do some testing again. Started with the Timmy. After testing it at 9V, 12V and 18V, I found I preferred it a 12V. Sounded more open, but retained the aggression and low end response I wanted.

Next was the Maxon OD-9. Tried it at 9V and 12V. Found it was a toss up. Really didn’t notice much difference, so I plan to keep it at 9V

Next was the Hermida Mosferatu and Distortion. Tried both pedals at 9V and 12V and much preferred them at 9V. At 12V they lost their aggression, much like I witnessed with the dirty bomb.

Still want to test the Zendrive at 12V and RAT at 12V. My friend has the RAT and it’s a little gainy for what he is using it for (P&W), so I am thinking he might like it at 12V.
Looking for other experiences of running dirt pedals in particular at higher voltages. I see some like the OCD, where people the general thought seems to be that they sound better at 18V.

I run my Kalamazoo at 18 volts. There is a noticeable increase in headroom and aggression. At this point I pretty much only want ODs that can run above the standard 9 volts.

You really have to be carful when testing different ODs at an increased voltage. Be sure to check the manufacturer's page to verify that the OD can handle the extra voltage.
