A masterpiece!

"This week marks the 43rd anniversary of RUSH's fifth studio album, A FAREWELL TO KINGS. Following the success of 2112 in 1976, it came as no surprise that the band decided to stay on the Prog Rock train with tracks like Xanadu and Cygnus X-1 (named after the closest known black hole to Earth). Ironically, the most popular track on the album was the melodic fan-favorite, Closer To The Heart, which was co-written by Peter Talbot, a close friend of Neil Peart. And believe it or not, A Farewell to Kings became the band's first Gold album in the US, selling over 500,000 copies in less than two months. While many RUSH fans cite this as an overlooked gem, there's little question that it set the stage for their rise to immortality with Hemispheres, Permanent Waves, and Moving Pictures."

43 years later and I still have yet to play through a rig which approximates that tone.

Plexi and greenbacks. That’s what I hear.

I was 10 yrs old when I first heard the opening riff from Xanadu...I was hooked after that.

I was a huge fan and wore out 2112-Moving Pictures. Still love that era of Rush.

Still remember some friends listening to 2112 for the first time (I was about 11). We picked up the needle and moved back to the beginning of side 1 like 3x.

What a great album - the title track, Xanadu, Cygnus...I really love that era of Rush, up to and including Moving Pictures (the B-side these days with Camera Eye and Witch Hunt, just heard Tom Sawyer and Limelight too many times), that old stuff is just awesome.

Damn, one of my favs!!!! This album was sort of my introduction to Rush. My buddy was learning guitar and I went to his house and he was playing this album. Been hooked ever since.

I remember buying it the day it came out. I still have it.
