In recent years I totally fell in love with the Wolfgang then HP Specials. I thought the feel of the back of the neck was a big part of it. So I had my tech (Lewis Bass repair in AZ) start by sanding off the back of my h308. I also had him reinstall the side fretmarkers because the stock ones were really obscured. I loved it! So next up was the mahogany of my Epiphone 7string LP Gothic- wow! My Gibson Gothic is next....I love the "organic" feel of it

Love an unpainted neck but I also like a satin finish on it. I get weird about having some sort of protectant on the neck.

I really need to do this with my LP. I buff it out once a week with a ScotchBrite pad and it gets slicker, but it's back to stick city inside of a week. My strat had an unfinished neck with some TruOil on it and I dig it a lot more.

Also, LOVE the 7 string Epi, dude. Damn.

Thanks! I bought it on a closeout for like 275shipped. At the time they also released some classic looking Epi7s at GC, , but they closed out too (I wish I grabbed another).
It was funny, that cheap Epi was being played more than my other expensive axes, so I sunk some cash into it- new wiring, pots, BK Miracle Mans, pro setup, now a sanded neck. I have no tech skills, so this was all done a piece at a time as I could afford it. It inspires me and I write tunes on it all the time, so this cheap import has become a prime axe for me

Oh and go for it! Nothing worse than a tacky/sticky neck. My guy only charged like 60 for the job, so better he do it than I muck it up on my own, lol

I have 3 maple necked guitars that have no finish on the for over 20 yrs with no issues.
I would make sure to seal any mahogony though

I've been playing unfinished necks for years. I've had 20-30 USA Charvels or Jacksons from the early to mid 80's time period and they all had unfinished necks.

I talked to a couple employees from Charvel back in the day who advised me that they used Tru-oil (Which is a brand of gun stock oil)

I also spoke with Ernie Ball and was informed they use a Tru-oil and wax blend. I know they used to sell there own brand of wax if one desired to achieve the same feel of the EBMM necks.

Damn dude... Looks like he did a great job. Do you mind PMing me or texting his info I've been looking for a better tech in the area for a while meow.

I do that to most of my gtrs also--nothing works better for me but I would not do it to a LP
