I guess that was from Sammy's house? I think those are his guitars...

Joe is obviously an OG and great at what he does, and those little trills and accents he did there were really fantastic and a great tribute to EVH, but man I don't think I've ever heard a single great high gain rhythm tone from him.

Cool gig though, those guys look like they're all having a blast.

I agree :censored:

He seems like a very cool, humble dude too. His music and tone just are way not in my wheelhouse.

It all sounds like the OST to the TMNT cartoon from the 80s to me

Agreed, his tone is always pretty shit! I also thought that jam was a mess. But it had great vibe.

On paper, I love this lineup. They player extremely well together... but I just don't care for any of their songs. It's like they went "let's play the most generic/ boring rock riffs that we can think of."

He always bored the shit out of me. Great teacher, great player. But, does nothing for me.

I will say that if you ever have to study for a test, there's nothing as fit for that specific purpose as Joe Satriani's music. His music always sounds like it's moving forward and is just energetic enough to keep you focused but not enough to wear you out. It's technically competent and highly organized, and any given song has very little change in volume or dynamics so the music is very "constant." Most relevantly though, it's never actually interesting enough to directly grab your attention. His entire catalog is like this and perfect for background music to put on while you're studying for a test.

I suppose that is both the highest praise and the harshest critique I could give his music.

Just about all of it is perfect for background music to put on while you're studying for a test.

It sounds like boring as shit dorian floyd wanking to me. Like pastels, but with distorted guitar. But, I have very weird tastes.

Exactly. It is boring as shit wanking but it's somehow never actively obnoxious because it's always happening at a kind of an "I'm bored but somehow not tired" energy level. It's perfectly ignorable.

I love that were both big enough guitar nerds to kind of shit on joe satriani, who is way better than me, im sure

that kind of kicks ass

because his music DOES eat ass

Lol. Of course the guy can play me under the table I'm sure. I also have tremendous respect for him in a way, and truly believe he has been influential enough to shape guitar playing as we know it.

I just think his music is the farthest thing from what I'd consider inspirational or emotional or interesting. It's more like watching somebody solve a math problem or lay a good brick wall. It's competent and familiar, and that's it.

And I absolutely did pull a few emergency all nighters before tests with Satch's music playing in the background and did really well on all those tests. His music is the only music I can study to. Anything attention-demanding is way too distracting for me.

Were on the same page. If i needed to study to the TMNT OST i think it would feel the same.
