Saw both at Jones Beach , Alice in chains is still awsum and the new singer nails Layne , Jerry was on last night.
I think Velvet Revolver is ok , not crazy about them , they get the biggest responses from the audience when they launch into GNR and STP songs .

While I like Slash , I think Jerry is the better player , not as flashy but I think Jerry says alot more with less notes.

Just my 2 cents.

But did you get a look at Jerry's set up?! That's the question we all want an answer to! lol

Velvet Revolver sucks supreme ass. I saw them w/ Muse a while back and Muse just blew them away. Half the audience left a few songs in when VR started.

Very cool to hear AIC's still bad ass! What was Jerry playing through that night, could you see?

Whos singing with AIC? Last I heard they had some guest vocalists and Jerry?

Actually William Duvall has been singing with them for years now, its just that at first they were calling it "Jerry Cantrell" before they got Inez and Kinney back.

The guy standing in for Layne is William Divall (not sure on the spelling of the last name) - he's OK. I give him a "good cover band to decent tribute band" level of ability.

Well I think that's true to some extent, but at the same time, not entirely fair. Layne really worked being "Layne Staley" 100% when he sang, no one else is going to be better at being Layne than Layne, so its a real tough gig to follow, IMO.

I agree, it is a bit unfair, but it's the truth (as far as an opinion can go) - there are some vocalists that I think would fit a bit better, such as Scott Wieland (if he was in early STP form) - even Chris Cornell would be a pretty good fit vocally - and Chris was even involved in the SAP album. You can hear the difference in the voices, but it's close enough that I'd certainly give him more credit than Duvall.

Duvall is good, but when I saw AIC - he had too much rock-star-attitude to be a guy who's standing in. I also saw him on Jerry's Boggy Depot tour, and he was ROUGH. He's improved quite a bit as a "Layne" - but that show then, man...

Interesting, I didn't know he's been with him since boggy depot? I saw him on the degradation trip tour and thought he was alright actually, but he was quite humble all things considered. I could definitely find him doing his Layne thing with too much attitude being annoying with a band like AIC. I agree if Chris Cornell or Weiland did the AIC parts in their own style, it would be better than Duvall. But those are a couple of my favorite modern rock singers so that's not saying a lot

Yeah, but compairing VR to Muse is just way unfair to VR. ;)

Also, William Duvall does a good job. He's not Layne, but then no one is. I think once they drop a new album with him, then things will get much better for him... as it will allow him to inject his own voice into the mix. As far as Cornell, while he was great with Soundgarden, he is a mere shell of the vocalist that he once was. He's lost much of his range these past few years. He's still a good singer, but not the singer that most of us remember.

I actually like the new VR disc much more than the first. I think this latest disc actually sounds like a cohesive band... instead of GnR with a different singer... IMHO.

I'm pretty sure it was him - hairstyle and all. I know he wasn't on the album, but for the AIC "covers" JC was doing that night, he was "doing" the Layne parts. He was more humble then - at least didn't have that "Rock Star" ego on stage - maybe going on tour has made his head get a bit bigger.

AFAIK, AIC will not step into a studio again (I heard such things) - at least, I hope they don't. Ideally, I'd like to see it evolve into what Jerry started doing with Boggy Depot and Degredation Trip, but continuing with Kinney and Inez instead of the revolving door he's had for a while.

If a studio album is done without Layne they should go under a different name.

what the fuck GNR covers could VR possibly do with scott (suck) weiland???

How long did AIC play for? I'm going to see them on Thursday.

Wasnt William Duvall singing in Cantrells other project Cardboard Vampires? I thin kthey were a cover band.

I saw AIC last year and Duvall did an amazing job IMO. He didnt totally try and recreate Layne's style but performed with what looked like to me, an absolute respect for the mans "legacy," or whatever you want to call it.

Why? AC/DC brought in Brian Johnson and kept their name. I like Bon better but nobody can deny the classic tunes and success the Johnson era produced.

When I saw Cardboard Vampyrs it wasn't Duvall. Can't remember that guy's name.
