I had tix yesterday to see Andy Timmons play at a dove bar in philly. Tix were only $15!!! I found out an hour before the show the Travis Larson was opening up. I didn't have any idea who he was but I'm glad I went to watch him play

When I got to the venue, I pulled up right behind Andy as he was parking his mini-van.

I sat down at the barn soon as I got in and within minutes and he walked in after me and I asked him if he could sign the headstock of my Vintage Summer of Love Strat. As soon as I took it out of the gig bag, his eyes lit up and said,"wow just like Hendrix's Monterey!!!". He signed it here...

He went up to do a sound check and his tone was completely glorious. I'd have to say that he has the best clean and dirty tones I've ever heard in my life. When he got done doing the sound check he came off stage and took pics with everyone who asked. Here is our selfie

Travis Larson opened up the show. He was playing multiple John Petrucci Music Man Guitars. His basis, Jennifer Young, was it absolute beast and she was playing Music Man as well.

As good as Travis was, he was kind of stiff to watch. Compared to Andy, it was no contest. And he has the chops, tone and fantastic stage presence.

At the end of the set, both Travis and Andy were hanging out and everyone got to shake their hand and meet them. Very cool if you ask me.

The best part about this is that the show was at 3pm. I was home by 630!!!!

Saw AT not long ago. Very friendly and mingles with the fans. He came out front and took pics and chatted with anyone who wanted. Great guy and a monster player.

thats a great story, I love that guys playing. was he playing the mesa lone stars in stereo??

Yes. It sounded glorious. Probably the BEST live tone I've ever heard.

I got to see Travis do a clinic for EV at my local guitar center a few months back. He absolutely rips and is an excellent player. All he used was an old Digitech multiFX pedal and the EV system, and he sounded better than I could hope to through my Mesa equipment. Seeing him with Timmons sounds like an extra special treat, as every time I hear Timmons pluck a note, it sounds like an idealized guitar sound. Two musicians who should be far more famous than they are.

Crazy. I can't imagine there was more than 40 to 50 people at the gig. Damn shame.

EL84 huh?

I think the tone generating LS is a 6L6 unit and he slaves it to the other running EL34's.

The Lone Star Special is EL84, unless something changed Timmons uses the regular Lone Star which is 6L6 or EL34 depending on how they're set up.

He normally uses a lonestar and a stiletto but since the stiletto is no longer in production???

According to his latest rig rundown (by premier guitar) he uses two lone stars (not sure if classic or special) and a large pedalboard. One of his pedals he specifically says does a good marshall sound through the lonestars, which I took to mean that is the reason he ditched the stiletto.

Very cool! AT is one of those players that seems to know where EVERY note on the fretboard is all at once! Like he's one with the guitar. Awesomeness.

I love this new release. I'm a huge AT fan and this release does not disappoint. Check out the track "That Day Came." That has to be some of the best "clean" lead tone I've ever heard and AT uses that tone to highlight his writing and technique...perfect!

I dig the album alot. His lead tone has less bite, but still sounds amazing. Sounds closer to Eric Johnson to me, but definitely has his signature sound.

"On Your Way Sweet Soul" has the BEST recorded tone I've ever heard. So good

I saw them 2 weeks ago in Raleigh, it was a great show. Its about the 3rd time I had seen Andy and it was amazing as always. There were probably only 50-70 people there max which was a shame. I have pics of his live amp rig but it would not let me load. His tone was glorious!

Here are some pics of Andy's recent rig. These aren't Specials but regular Lone Stars. His board has a lot of stuff packed into a small space.
