Friday night I was able to see Glass Harp at a small theater near my home, the Barrow Theater in Franklin, PA. I've always been a big fan of Phil but I had only ever seen a few Youtube clips of Glass Harp. Words can't describe how incredible this show was...simply mindblowing. Phil's playing was beyond description...easily one of the best improvisors I've ever heard. Beyond that, I've never been moved by a drummer like I was by John Sferra...this guy drives a beat like none other...a groove monster.

Phil played a Les Paul and a custom Tele with a P90 in the bridge through an AC30 and what appeared to be Fender Hot Rod Deville. He also made extensive use of pedals (nothing too over-the-top) as well as a looper. What a great player is all I can say...I'm still trying to get my head around everything I heard.

Here are a few pics taken by a friend that I thought you might like...enjoy!!!

I want a les Paul that looks that big on me....
  ...I think they call that an ES-335. Phil and Randy Rhoads definitely make Les Pauls look like jazz boxes.

Wow, no love for Keaggy I see. What a bunch of knuckle dragging, mouth breathing, metal-head neanderthals we have here :poke: ;)

im jealous!

i'd love to see his electric playing. he has a tone and phrasing style similar to holdsworth on most of the electric stuff i've heard him do.

i've got few keaggy cd's that i listen to from time to time. the guy can play. i especially like his acoustic stuff. but he does get a bit too "preachy" for me sometimes.

i am a big fan
i have a bunch of glass harp lps and 2 of his solo releases- the master and the musician/the wind and the wheat

dude is an unheralded giant for 40+ years
i need to see him live

his version of amazing grace is one of the most incredible guitar arrangements ever

Here's a vid from the same venue a year ago:

And the encore from Friday night (playing starts around 3:20):

Some cool E-Bow work by Phil:

I saw him 20 years ago. He was killer, I wished I could have made the mistakes he made!
It's great to see he's still tearing it up.
Cheers

Great stuff, he is absolutely amazing live. I saw him 2 years ago doing an acoustic set, my jaw was on the floor the whole time. Really nice guy too.
Thanks for the pics! I would love to see him in a band context

This is just amazing!

Great vid...I hadn't seen that one before. He walked out on stage on Friday carrying his acoustic (the Les Paul and Tele were already on stands), put it on a stand, and never touched it again the rest of the night. Although they had a set list, they didn't follow it (my friend got Phil's actual list off the stage)...in fact, they basically played requests as shouted out from the crowd (glad nobody yelled Freebird...although it might have been cool to here their take on it ;) )
