Every time I see JS in concert, Im completely amazed at his control over the guitar. He just has total domination over his tone. No matter where hes standing on stage, he can get this everlasting controlled sustain and feedback. With all the saturation and gain he must use to get that, its still very musical.
He had 4 Marshall halfstacks up there, and it just sounded spectacular. Ballsy, and with a nice bit of sizzle on top. I cant recall in the whole 2 hr set , if he actually played anything with a clean tone haha. Usually that would bug me, but not with the sounds he had going. Oh, and Marco Minnemann on drums kicked major ass!
Bonus...the Steve Morse Band was the opening act!

Yeah I think his latest tone with the JS2410 and the JVM JS kicks ass

I unfortunately missed him this time around....and I had no idea that the Steve Morse Band was opening for him. If I would've known that, I would have made sure I was there. Absolutely kicking myself!

i find it hard to believe that steve morse didn't wipe the floor with joe 17,777 ways from sunday with versatility, tone and sheer genius.
last time i saw joe [3 years ago] it was a bore and every song sounded the same….. .an up tempo rocker that could have been the background track to an ESPN sports special.

Morse is great but he's not wiping the floor w/ Joe. He an opening act. He's a shit replacement in Deep Purple as well. His time was w/ The Dregs and early Steve Morse Band. I've seen both many times. His current tone (ENGL) isn't anything to write home about either and IMO, he's WAY more repetitive than Joe. Guy plays hick solos in Purple tunes.

Good stuff, man.

Seeing Joe Oct.5 & can not wait. And while some of his stuff can sound a shade derivative, his songwriting is just that much more universal than his peers.

Dig me some SMB, but when I saw DP last year the tone/playing left me feeling indifferent. Sure I'd enjoy Steve on his own way more & can't see how anyone at the show wouldn't take away something of value from both players.

Steve Morse is one of my favorite guitarists ever, but I can't stand the whole Deep Purple guitarist thing. Good for him he's got a lucrative gig, but I just cannot get into it at all.....I think Ian Gillan has a lot to do with it.....

and yea its good to see steve getting a steady lucrative paycheck regardless of what we think

Thanks for the report and great to hear!

I finally get to see him on Oct. 11! I'm right in the second row in front of where he stands. Can't wait for the show. The bonus is Steve Morse there as well.

So looking forward to this!!!

:)

Was this meant to be a joke? If not it has to be one of the lamest comments on music I have seen online which is saying something...

I can't believe the disrespectful way you are speaking of someone as talented and hard working as Steve Morse.

Hick solos indeed.

Naaa, the comment about Morse wiping the floor w/ Joe Satriani is the joke and disrespectful.

For the record, I've seen Morse many many times, from the Dregs in the late 70's to the Steve Morse band, plus a few seminars. He's great, although far from my favorite player. I thought he was a terrible replacement in Deep Purple, and yes, it is offensive hearing these major key country style solos in classic DP tunes.

I don't care if he is your favorite player or not your manner of speaking about Morse above is out of line. The other poster's comment about Morse wiping the floor with Satriani was silly but your comments are downright offensive.

He's not your cup of tea in DP so leave it at that. Calling his solos "hick solos" is a schmuck move that says a lot more about you that you seem to realize.

What does it say about me exactly, Skippy? I don't like Morse in DP. Fuckin' yokum fiddle hick solos don't fit in that band, IMO Too bad if you don't like it.

You call the OP "silly" but I touched nerve? LOL Fuck off

Like I said, what you write says everything about your "classy" persona. Writing the way you do about extremely accomplished musicians like Steve Morse and calling his solos "fuckin' fiddle hick solos" says a lot about you and your ear but even more about your nasty personality.

The sensitivity is strong with this one...

It's simply an opinion...get over yourself and your indignation. One man's genius in another man's fool...no need to chastise somebody over their opinion on a completely subjective issue. Morse is one of my favorites but I'm not having a hissy fit because somebody doesn't like him in Deep Purple (Satch was obviously a better fit in that band ;) ). It's the interwebz...relax

I think you have missed the point entirely. I'm not debating taste though I obviously disagree with that poster. The point is that to speak in such a manner about a musician like Steve Morse is not simply the expression of different taste but rather an aggressive and unnecessary attack on an incredibly hard working musician. Given that most are musicians of some sort here I would think some basic standard of civility and respect should apply.

And your silly photo is anything but clever.

Once again, you're projecting your opinion and nothing more. This an internet guitar gear forum where anonymous people post their opinions and frequently do so in a divisive manner, often for comedic effect. To go so far as to call somebody's characterization of Morse's solos in the context of Deep Purple as "yokum fiddle hick" as being an "aggressive and unnecessary attack" is downright laughable and borderline delusional. We're still talking about somebody expressing an opinion in a manner no more offensive (subjective, I know) than dozens of other opinions stated here every day.

And as for my photo, I've already gotten one PM stating that it was funny..."clever" is in the eye of the beholder. But thanks for stating your opinion as fact yet again

Lighten up and you'll enjoy life to a much greater degree
