I was surprised at how good a show those guys can still put on. They played mostly older stuff, which was cool. I think they played about half of their 1st record. Guitar tone was thick and huge. Weiland looked completely wasted but he never hit a bad note, which really surprised me.

I managed to take a quick cell phone video of a song...

Cool! I saw them right before they went on hiatus and they flat out rocked! Deleo's tone was amazing.

What's up with their latest album though? It's garbage. Like they tried to be a Bob Dylan/Aerosmith cover band! The music they wrote with Richard Patrick of Filter on vocals (Army of Anyone) should've been the new STP record.

I liked the new album. It's a bit poppy in some places but the songs are good imho.

I like where they were going writing-wise with Army Of Anyone, but the drummer killed it for me, he was just way too busy, no pocket...I missed Eric's lay it down groove.

It's not the pop that kills it for me. There's just no depth. It's like they just whipped out some mediocre songs and said "meh, we're STP, we don't need to try anymore."

I agree about the drummer, but the songwriting was sooo much better than the last STP.

Deleo always has such a good live tone. They still have a lot of energy too. It's amazing how good you can feel when you clean up and aren't always coming down!

It's like everywhere he had a chance to play a fill he couldn't resist. I can't stand drummers like that. It's not play for the song, it's a 5 minute workout.

Dream Theater drumming over STP writing...doesn't work.

Nice work, they sounded on.

Great audio quality on that vid, that's an iphone vid??? STP has been really good every time I've seen them. I like the guitar tones on the new album but not a whole lot more. For me, songwriting and style - the newest is their worst album. I like the AoA album far better than the newest STP.

yes, iphone 4 vid :)

Heres another...

With all the mention of how bad the new album is, you might find it interesting that the ONLY song they played off it was the one single they've had, "Between the Lines"

That looks and sounds a billion times better than anything my 3gs has ever done at a concert. I know the vid should be better, but the audio sounds pretty good for being a phone concert vid. How far away were you?

not far, maybe 50 feet from the stage. It wasn't zoomed in, if that tells you anything.

Nice, thanks for sharing. They sound pretty good still, Scott seems in tune. ;)
Best thing musically to come out of the 90's IMO.
Time to get back in the studio with O'Brien and create some new magic.

That's good to hear. I kept hearing bad things about them. Lip synching rumors, the whole thing.

Glad they're doing well!

Best band to come out of the 90's IMHO as well. That iphone records really well.
