I can get schaller floyd for $50 and wanted to make sure of a few things?
It is off a old early 90's washburn and wanted to know if it is just a standard 1990's Schaller floyd bridge but only with "Washburn" stamped where it normally would have "Schaller"? like this one has?
d4_schaller.jpg

it is that same exact looking bridge but in chrome and has "washburn" on the one side
and made in west germany at the other end of the baseplates side where the trem arm inserts.
Are these floyds good or is it on par with a floyd special which is not all that great

They are as good an OFR - Schaller as used by Dimebag :)
Dime used a Schaller? that would be a hell of a endorsement since he beat the crap out of his floyds! He pulled one off a guys jackson custom shop once!
I thought he had all OFR's on his deans and washburns with the hardened steel baseplates and spin in trem arm.
like these. http://www.floydrose.com/catalog/tremol ... mited-1984

As long as it says "made in germany" you're good. There are tons of cheapo chinese POSs that are virtually identical, but they are garbage.

I actually prefer the Schaller Floyd to the OFR.

Great,it definitely has that engraved in the baseplate near where you install the trem arm
The "Washburn" logo being engraved in the baseplate part threw me but i guess if the Schaller is a OEM part then the guitar company gets to have their name on the trem?
didnt Jackson and charvel do this too years ago?
have regular schallers with their name engraved on the trem?

Those are great. A lot of companies used them back in the day, Jackson had them on everything from about 1990 to 1995 for example, and they are still a very good trem. One thing to watch out for is that the intonation screws can strip the thread in the baseplate on some of the older ones, causing the saddle to slip around and messing with the tuning. If you buy a Schaller today (or a replacement baseplate) they have special inserts to prevent it. I guess that was the one weak spot compared to the OFR.

Good to know and thanks!
I had a feeling this trem was one of those that charvel/jackson used on some guitars years ago also.
It was before they used the 590Lp or whatever that trem is called?

Yeah, Jackson called these the JT590 and the Takeuchi JT580LP came after.

Schallers were certainly what Dime got fitted in the early days - who know what got fitted to the production models - probably OFR's!

I've got both and they are pretty much the same as far as I can tell, both great :)

Here is a picture of the one on my Hamer:

As long as it's got the little made in Germany box, as said above, next to the arm you are good!

Yes that is the Bridge i bought cept where your's has schaller engraved mine has Washburn engraved there but everything else is the same. Has that same made in germany stamp between the trem arm insert hole and the bridge post. Thanks to everybody for the info.

I installed one on a Kramer guitar and it was slightly darker sounding which I believe because the original Floyds have the hardened steel baseplate and the Schaller branded Floyds like in the picture have the steel knife edges and quality cast baseplate..it still was an excellent tremolo.and I like the shorter string lock bolts on the Schallers.
