Schaller Floyd Rose - stripped saddle threads

So i have an older import Charvel 650XL from the late 80's, and it still has the original Schaller JT590 Floyd Rose that it came with from the factory. The knife edges are immaculate and the whole unit is in good condition.

However.... it has a problem which seems to be VERY common with older Schaller Floyds... The threaded holes in the base plate where the saddles screw into, have stripped completely. So no matter what, the saddles will not lock down anymore, causing the saddle to slide allover the place.

After visiting my friend Henrik's website http://audiozone.dk/index-filer/floyd-tremolo-tips.htm#helicoil, I got the idea of using Helicoils to repair the stripped threads. It looks fairly easy from what i can tell...

Has anyone here repaired the threads on a Floyd baseplate? And if so, was it a simple job or a pain in the ass to do?

Cheers,
Dan

I have been google searching this topic all evening and i think i just found a much easier solution, that works out cheaper than buying a replacement Floyd :

I didn't even know Schaller sold spare baseplates. It works out very reasonable price-wise so it would probably be best to buy a new baseplate instead of trying to repair the old one :)

The helicoil should work just fine. Its not hard to do. Ive had it done on engine stuff before.

I was coming in here to tell you about Rockinger, it´s the only place anywhere that sells a new baseplate for these. The new plates also have little hardened inserts for the intonation screws.
