Was starting to down size. Just sold my X88 and a SLOR, but couldn't pass this up.

What's the difference in the 88 and 99?

88 is 3 channel.
99 is midi with the midi rotating dials etc.

I think the 88 sounds more organic and open. X99 is a little more compressed and gain - sort of the difference between a CAE 3+ and a SE.

Man, hate to tell you this, but you got screwed - you got #99000. 89999 guys before you got theirs. I can help take it off your hands though - I have a rare amp from across the sea for you. "Bugera". :)

You are THE person to have that! Good score, I want to hear these sometime!

Anytime you want you can borrow one. I also still have a CAE 3+ (which is more like an X88) and a VHT Classic amp for them you should try them with. ;)

Thanks guys, I am stoked. :D

Congrats! That's cool man. I was thinking about buying that but am having too much fun with the SLOr as is. What I really need is my own VHT 2100 for a w/d/w rig...

Nice :)

But that's not the Proto, thats the first production model

THIS is the proto (different faceplate/knobs/switches

Hmm. I'll have to ask Mike about this. This is the ad:

Here is a very cool and rare preamp! This is the prototype that was sold to Hayden Nicholas of Clint Black in the early 90's. The story goes that his tech at the time Zeke Clark acquired it off Soldano's bench prior to the Caswell Preamps's going into production.

Sometimes there is more than one proto. idk? Maybe just the final proto before official production? I've got an attenuator sitting right here that is the 2nd proto and it looks just like what production will be. But I know it isn't in production because it was given to me test out.

Harshing my high Piero

Who cares if it is the exact proto lol wtf... How does it SOUND?? That is what i care about!!!

One of the best preamps ever.. I got one in 97' off some guy for $700 at the Ohio Guitar Show in Columbus. I traded it for a Anderson later on. I regret it very much, for the price and the tone. :)
