Was listening to the Scorps just the other day and thought it was time for an appreciation thread......

I dig this video for obvious reasons and the fact that Mathias Jabs was playing an SLO makes it that much cooler!!!

This one brings back memories.... Damn has it been that long ago that I was watching the Love at first sting concert??? Those were the times

And my other fave runner-up...

Oh yeah, Great band and they always sound fresh everytime I listen to them. One of my favorites :rawk:

They're good but they're so cheesy
Lovedrive is in my current MP3 player rotation, but 40 consecutive minutes is all I can take
I think they work better for sincle cuts

Fan since 82. I love the Scorpions. Now I will go and Listen to some Tokyo Tapes.

Blasphemy.... That's just crazy talk....  Ok maybe some of the lyrics are , but considering the era they were pretty tame lyric wise compared to some of the stuff being wrote in the 80's and besides they still sound good to this day unlike some that really sound quite dated IMHO.

That's why I still listen to them ;)
Just not in extra large doses

I think it has to do with this thing called "talent"

They're not "cheesy", they're "German".

Im in. the 1983 US Festival they stole the show from Van Halen for sure.

We used to crank my World Wide Live cassette when riding quarter pipes in the 80's!

One of my top 5 fav bands easily. I love that each era (Uli vs. Mathias) is as good as the other but totally different depending on what mood you're in. Their rhythm tone in the 70's through early 80's to me is a total bench mark of hard rock/metal tone. Uli's lead tone in the 70's was as good to me as anything Hendrix did. Different for sure but just as pleasing as an example of what a Strat can do into a Marshall. Uli's playing in the 70's I think was far superior to Blackmore (Don't hate, I dig MKII Purple big time).

That Japanese audience doesn't stand a chance of understanding Klaus. When he tries to get them to say Zoo and they obviously don't get it is pretty damn funny. I like how the band cuts that bit short once they figure out the crowd has no idea.

I always wondered if the lyrics were often cheesy because they just weren't that great with English. Didn't they get Herman to write the lyrics once he joined because he was the best at English?

I remember when I first heard the song Blackout...That beginning kicks ass.

I too modeled my tone after them. That's classic Marshall.

Funny you should start this thread today :), I'm in the night shift again, the last time I spent 3 nights at work I had a lot of fun with YT Scorpions clips, Jabs especially.!

I think Scorpions was the other big one in my formative years alongside Maiden. I kinda stopped following them after Winds of Change but always come back to the "classic" era - Blackout, Love at First Sting, Savage Amusement - every now and then. I have to admit I've admired Jabs's effortless pentatonic fireworks from the get go and still am amazed what he gets out of those basic notes! His live tone in the 80's was phenomenal, at least to me. And as someone already said, the rhythm tone of theirs is one of the benchmark of the era.
