Hi guys,

I recently sold my Torpedo Captor 8ohm to someone on eBay. My only reason for this was because I now needed the 16ohm version, but I bought one of those and sold mine.

Although I hadn't used it for a couple of months, it was working perfectly before and had no problems.

When I sent it to the buyer, he sent me a video showing the issues he was having; there was a noise that appeared when selecting the bass cab sim and also a scratchy noise when adjusting the volume.

He's now going to send it back to me, unfortunately!

Do you have any idea what the issue could be? Strange that it's just appeared.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Cheers, James

I've uploaded a few videos to show you the problem...:

Try contact cleaner in the pot and switch. Squirt it and work it.

Try cleaning the pot with some Deoxit.
Should fix the problem.

I did suggest that to him actually, but he wasn't willing to do it.
I will do so when it returns to me though.

What about the possible issue on the bass cab sim - any thoughts on that?

Thanks!

The bass cab sim is activated by a toggle switch. Squirt contact cleaner into that switch and work it back and forth 20 times. If that thing sat for a while like you said, it probably got a little dust inside of it. And if you ship something with a little dust in it, that dust will move around as the box gets moved and bumped on conveyor belts and trucks. I've had this happen on lots of used gear I've bought. 99% of the time, contact cleaner eliminates the problem. YMMV.

Ok perfect.
I've just ordered some so I will give all that a go when it arrives.

I was hoping it was just that.

I'll let you know how I get on!

Thanks again!

I thought you'd be interested to know that the contact cleaner totally did the job.
Good as new again.

Thanks for everyone's help, it's appreciated!
