Hey guys I'm looking replacing the Burstbucker Pro's in Gibson LP Trad Faded. The Burstbucker Pro's are lifeless, trebly, and muddy. Every time I play the guitar I'm focusing more on whether I like the pick ups or not and not enjoying playing an otherwise awesome guitar.

I'm trying to decide between an SD Custom/Jazz combo or the Whole Lotta Humbucker set. I've heard good things about both and tend to prefer high output humbuckers in the bridge, but the Whole Lotta Humbucker set is tempting in that it seems to be made for an LP. What do you guys think?

I'd try the Custom/Jazz first because they are a classic, tried-and-true design. Plus they're cheaper because they're easy to find used. If you don't like them, sell them for what you paid and look into another set that would seem to have what your thought was missing from the Custom/Jazz.

I really like the WLH's I have in my Les Paul Std. While the specs aren't hot the bridge has some balls to it. I really like them.

I haven't tried that WLH set, but the Custom is a great pickup in a Les Paul.

Thanks for the advice guys, I ended up ordering the SD Custom/Jazz, I can't wait for them to come in

I'm using the Custom/Pearly Gates neck. How does the Jazz compare?

Before you throw the towel in on the BB Pro's , what are your pot values? I have a set in a Studio but the pots are 300k volumes and 500k on the tones and they are not lifeless or spiky...

I hated the Burstbucker Pro's in my Gibson Explorer 120 - just a horrible, thin-sounding bridge pickup, a terrible match for that guitar. I put in a Duncan Custom, and it sounds much better now.

I just got my pick ups today and should have them installed in the next week or so. I have 59's in the neck position for 3 of my guitars and a Jazz for one other, so I went for another Jazz. Both are great pick ups thought. I'm looking forward to trying out the Custom.

Some people seem to like them, others not. When I was 1st looking at the same model of LP, the Traditional Faded, I tried one through a Mesa Stiletto after playing Jackson DK2M with the JB and the LP blew the DK2M away. I have the same model LP and a DK2M with the JB and the DK2M blows my LP out of the water every time.

Gibson guitars are known for their lousy QC, it could be the same with their pick ups, although I only hear this about the BB Pro's.
