Searching for musicians/bands on Craigslist = nightmare!

Anyone else just have ZERO luck on Craigslist? I'm on the search for a band to play with. I placed a very informative yet succinct Craigslist ad, looking for a band/musicians. I feel like every response I've gotten is from some wacky washed-up wannabe, punk metal bands with awful music, or SRV blues dudes in their 50s. To make it worse, almost every email response I've received has been written in horrible, broken English. Chock full of crap like "all r band members r in 20s" or "We r playing rock n pop". Seriously. It's not a text message, it's an email. Learn how to type.

For example: I responded to an ad, and asked "Hey there. Saw your ad looking for a lead guitarist. What music styles do you guys play? How old are your members? What town do you practice in, and how often?

This is the response that I got: "sure we have a mix between classic rock n alternative fro early 90's let me attached the list of all the songs we have been through but dont play it all ok"

Like, seriously? Is that a f*cking sentence? What the sh*t is that?

Rant over.

Musicians tend to be morons.
People on Craigslist tend to be morons.

Combine the two, and it creates some crazy black hole of stupid, from which no rational thought can escape.

You would think it wouldn't be hard to find 3 people who want to play 60bpm stoner metal. Its fucking easy. You tune to some low as fuck drop tuning and just play power chords and the blues scale...

no

luck

yeah, forget CL when looking for musicians. I put up a post a couple of months ago saying that i was looking for a drummer and bassist who want to play some heavier stuff, ala tool/isis/pelican. I get a response from this guy saying he's a bassist and he has a drummer that he jams with but they're not into heavy music and they like jamming on more laid back stuff. WTF

I have been looking the last few days and it sucks. I had a name of an online site that hooked musicians with musicians. It went by age and genre. I just can't recall what it was. If anybody knows any sites like that please chime in.

That is because it is slim pickins on CL. I have been coming across nothing but jazz musicians.

yeah, i wasn't really expecting any responses, but it's like, why would they even bother responding if i'm only looking to play heavier stuff??

at least you don't live in a college town where the only bands that play music play ska

This is where real life networking works better IMHO. When i was in the middle of bands there was always this circle of people i knew who were in and out of bands so it was easy to find something. But try and maybe showup at some open jam nights, try and see which bands in your area are popular and hang out at their shows and maybe get to know some people who know them since bands always know other bands, and bands are always switching members.

I'm in the current band I'm in because I responded to an ad in all caps. It was like the shittiest ad ever for a guitarist:

"HEY SO WE NEED A NEW GUITARIST BECAUSE OUR OLD GUITARIST LEFT IF YOUR INTERESTED IN BEING OUR GUITARIST SEND US AN EMAIL AND WELL GET BACK TO YOU

myspace.com/myorison"

They had professional sounding recordings at the time so I responded. And now they're some of my closest friends.

My current band came together through CL. You just have to wade through a lot of crap first, but they're out there.

This.

I am happy to be in probably the only 80's metal cover band around here haha

The other guitar player and drummer are from craigslist and we work really well together. Finding a singer on craiglist was an exercise in absolute comedy/trainwreck in motion. About 1 in 75 can sing (generously), and about 1 in 10 of those fit what we wanted to do...

I don't think judging musicians by their written communication skills is a good idea, honestly. I know lots of guys that are scary good that would come across as flat-out retarded if you only dealt with them via email, hahaha.

Yeah I've been looking for about 2 months and spoke to about 5-6 bands and they all have either been flakes with little or no response and/or total idiots. I live in a town saturated with music and they are all total crap! There is one band that I might join and it's not really my style but the music is good. It is theatrical 60's with some modern rock which is where I would come in. I would add that Mark lll Coliseum sound to the Beatles/Jerry Lee Lewis/Queen music. It could be cool. :dunno:

This is a huge problem for me. I can't deal with attempting to read a paragraph-long run-on sentence with a million misspellings and "r" and "u" and "n"s.

That's almost signature worthy!

You hit the nail on the head,I had the same exact problem.
Then I had a few guys contact me,and they all said they have
many years behind a kit,and when it came time to jam either
they had a Muppet drum kit,or couldn't keep time.my favorite
is,"been working all day, having a hard time getting in the groove"
excuses excuses,50 yr old dudes just wanna drink beer and play
children of the grave.
Or young dudes wanna play blink 182.
Searching for musicians is not easy, good luck.
I hired a drummer to do what I wanted to get done.
