Slow day at work...and tongue in cheek not meant to offend anyone.

Being that the classifieds are a mere fraction of the pre-2008 heyday, I've been seeing more of the following:

- Sellers complaining/whining in their bumps why no one is buying the item.

- Cheerleading bumps. "Come on people, lets get this thing sold!"

- Time sensitive special price if item sells by a certain day/time...day goes by still selling at that price.

- Threats about pulling the item and going to ebay if not sold by a certain date. Date goes by...yep item is still for sale.

- Item needs to be sold because of emergency expenses - but will take trades

I'm sure there's more...

And yes I have been frustrated myself trying to sell in the classifieds, I've pretty much abandoned it unless it's a new release with built in demand due to limited albeit temporary availability...or the item has built in demand that doesn't fluctuate much in the wake of cyclic trends.

With the internet and many websites nowadays, it's easy to find deals
Buyers are increasingly cheaper and will often look for deals only
Sellers will get impatient and sell lower
Hence the wheel turns and prices keep going down, it's a buyer's market

Except when you look at rare or highly in demand products, which seem to fetch sometimes more than the new price (Analogman stuff, Two Rock, etc.)

So, what is your point? :dunno:

I like using the cheerleader bump. Either that or I'll just express my distaste for those who browse the classifieds and don't buy my stuff.

There have been bigger problems in the trade threads than what you listed. You're complaining about all the wrong things. You are misinterpreting some of it too. The worst offenses are people trolling and either criticizing shit or taking it off-topic. Trade threads should be clean and only people interested in actually buying should post in them. Too much of that crap has gone on. Unless it's some legitimate reason of deception or something, trade threads should be pure business only.

I haven't seen anyone complaining about their stuff not selling, but so what if they do?

Cheerleader bumps, so what? Insignificant compared to trolling.

I haven't seen anyone threaten to go to Ebay. I've seen people who want to give the forum a last bump before resorting to Ebay, but that's about it. Nothing wrong with that.

Selling for emergencies, etc... well we all know that's usually an excuse for all the dipshits who get hung up on *why* someone is selling/trading something. Unless someone has cause to suspect that the seller/trader is selling/trading to offload a defective item or something, then *why* isn't an issue. The answer is simple - because people either want money or want something different.

Other things should be eliminated as well. For instance, people routinely trading/selling stuff they get cheap from the forum for profit. I think that's misuse of the forum. If you bought something used and got a good deal on it then pass the deal along because the simple fact that you bought something, had it shipped, used/tried it, and are reselling it only diminishes the value.

Also, people buying stuff on pre-order and then trying to sell it for retail or even higher. Once an end-user buys a product it's no longer *new.* It can be in brand new condition or as new as it can possibly get, but it's not new as from a legitimate dealer.

Another practice that should be scorned is when people post stuff like "Custom Charvel" or something like that when it's really a parts-o-caster, even if they did a really good job with it. Some newbs just don't know the difference and it's shitty to take advantage of them.

Another important thing that needs to change are people not mentioning repairs or mods. If an amp has been repaired, modded, retubed, or is in some way not 100% original and without any history of defect, it should be stated in the thread. Trading should be up-front and honest so people really know what they're getting.

The year the gear was made should always be included also. Let's face it, unless there is some kind of real vintage prestige to the item, a 5 year old amp isn't worth as much as a 1 year old amp of the same model and condition.

Original ownership is also an important aspect. Some manufacturers will allow warranty transfers from the original owner. If you are the third owner, even the gear is perfectly preserved as when it was received, the value still diminishes because of the fact that it has been bought 3 times.

Therefore, there are plenty of real issues to deal with instead of bitching about how people whine or bump threads.

When OP said "tongue-in-cheek", he meant don't over-analyze it (what you did)

I agree with most of what you say, except for the quoted points
People are adults, nobody is forcing anybody to buy something
If I bought something something for 500$ and market price is 1000$, I sure as hell won't sell it for 500$
If I buy a pre-order product and some people are willing to pay full price for it, you can bet that's the price I'll sell it for.
Don't blame the sellers, blame the buyers

The thing that bums me out about the classifieds is when a killer piece comes along, maybe something I've been looking out for even, and I convince myself not to grab it because I think another will come along and it doesn't.

Either that or you buy it and another one pops up for 200$ less two days later
It's pretty hard to predict the future
But following your logic, should I buy a nicely priced Klon Centaur?
λυλζ

I doubt it.

My flawed logic also seems to contain some kind of...well, thinking I have to have everything.
So taking that into account, all I could muster up was buying a Klone.

Hey, one step at a time.

Then you misunderstand the purpose of the trade threads.

[bla bla bla bla]

On a tangent? No, I'm just magnifying the symptoms of the problems we have in trade threads because it's all a result of the exact same behaviors and mentality.

Yeah you kinda lost me when you started talking about government health care.

I was literally asking, should I buy a Klon Centaur
It was more of a soliloquy than a rhetorical question, but if anybody has an advice, go for it
