Hey all,
I have a couple of items that I'm selling and I'd like to avoid eBay if possible. I started a Reverb account a while ago but haven't used it yet. I'm still a little skeptical.
Is it better than eBay? Anything I should watch out for? ( other than the obvious scammers etc.)
Thanks!!

I haven’t sold anything on eBay and years now. I’ve sold quite a few items on Reverb though and have had good luck. I wouldn’t hesitate if I were you.

It's a pretty good place to buy/sell. It has the some of the same drawbacks as anything else about scammers, fickle buyers, low ballers, etc...but I started using it and like it. No fees until it's sold, that's a good benefit.

I've been using it a lot recently instead of eBay and forums to buy and sell. A lot easier to just list and forget. May take awhile to move certain items but everything I listed eventually sold within 1-2 months. Gotta deal with the occasional low ball offers but it hasn't been too bad. Definitely a lot easier to list than eBay.

In terms of fees, you pay a selling fee and also a payment processing fee. So expect around 6% in fees, give or take. Once you have sold a bunch of items and become a preferred seller its quicker to get the money sent to your bank account. I used to have to wait until it actually delivered to buyer to get my money, but now since I've sold a bunch of items and got verified I mark it as shipped and money is sent to my bank account within 1-2 days which is a plus.

I don't sell on gear Ebay anymore.I've sold quite a bit on Reverb. Most items have sold within a few days, some within a few hours. No complaints. Price it reasonably and it will sell. I buy a lot there too.

Why are you skeptical? I and many others have been selling on it since its inception. Do you have something so valuable that you are worried? I don't sell to people with no feedback. You also have none and will have more trouble convincing buyers of your credibility. Be sure to list your active forums, ebay name, etc.

I've bought and sold on Reverb with only minor issues with a seller once. Haven't sold in a while though. I think there were some posts on here a while back with complaints about Reverb siding with buyers who wanted to return gear after buying and according to the guy who posted the thread it was more or less only due to buyers remorse and he wound up screwed.

This happens on EBay all the time also Paypals 180 day return window does not help. You don't have to accept Paypal on Reverb unlike Ebay who forces you to use it.

This.

But, I also had an experience that was headed towards the scam category on Reverb, and Reverb took care of it. Sold an SLO, for a good price and after a week the buyer said it was "noisy". I offered to send him different tubes, and reminded him that he can send it to Soldano as it has a lifetime warranty. I also said that it is normal to have a slightly buzzy transformer or have some hiss under high gain, but he kept saying there was something wrong with it.
Reverb sent me a message saying they took care of it, and it was resolved..pretty cool.

Reverb is AMAZING, but my only issue is they dont bill you day of sale. They bill you on their own billing cycle. So you need to be sure to keep the money you owe them for the sale in your PayPal till they bill you.

I like Reverb and buy/sell there.

Anybody who deals with lowballers does it because they want to. Set a minimum price and you'll never see an offer below it.

No issues for me. I like reverb a lot. I think you get hit twice maybe if you accept paypal, I could be wrong (Paypal fees then reverb fees) but its all gear related, you get your money when the buyer pays, not when Ebay decides to release your ransom.

You get hit twice no matter what payment method you use.

I have made my living on Reverb. It is an amazing place to buy and sell. Unlike eBay and Amazon, who only want happy buyers, reverb wants a FAIR market place. You have an issues, you can call them and talk with a real person in Chicago who can help you. Not some talking head overseas. Fees now are a little higher than eBay, since eBay is now just over 6%. I think Reverb is 7.8 or right around 8% Unless you are a preferred seller. Then its 6%. Thats included payment processing fees. Everything is handled on the site, from payments, to shipping labels. Much more stream lined then eBay and Paypal. Their shipping service is great as well, its really cheep, ave cost for a guitar shipped using UPS is about 35 bucks, ave cost for a 2x12 combo is 50 bucks, a head 40 bucks.Their insurance...AMAZING. Its not through UPS or USPS, its their own. I have never had a clime declined, or my cash withheld. Its takes about 7 days.
