Serious level issues with a Mesa 2:90/Groove Tubes trio ;(

Hey all,
Im just putting together my first rack amp! As the title says i've got a GT trio feeding directly a Mesa 2:90.
The output on the trio is turned fully up, feeding into channel "A" of the power amp. The power amp is feeding a 16ohm Hiwatt 4x12 from the channel "A" 8ohm speaker output (as per the boogie manual). now when the power amp is turned up fully the sound is just a little bit louder than full talking volume...It should be knocking the walls down, right!?
Ive double checked the line/instr switch and tried on both settings but still no joy. . . I've also tried swapping channels over on the power amp, as in using channel "b" etc...but the same result.
The power amp is recently serviced and i have personally seen it driving an AxeFx at full tilt through a 2x12 so

Can someone here please help a brother out?! Is it just something silly or is there a sinister problem....Is the GT thr problem? (although i've tried that straight into a Hiwatt Dr103 and there's no volume drop etc....)

Any advice greztly appreciated folks!
Thanks a lot

I ran that same rig for a while back in the 90's. The Trio sounds like the issue but I really don't know what to tell you to look for...its a pretty straight forward piece of gear. I'd have a tech look at it to determine why it's putting out a weak signal.

check the cables - check all of the soldering on them.

make sure there are no bad preamp tubes in the preamp, check the bias of the tubes in the power amp to make sure they are not biased off. make sure you see the filaments glowing in the power tubes and that the tubes are not defective.

check the input jack of the preamp and its connection to the preamp board, and also check the guitar cable out front.

if everything checks out, try different outlets other than what you are using.

if you still have nothing, run an ipod into the power amp to see if it is amplifying properly without the tubed preamp. if you get decent signal, then its the preamp and possibly needs further attention and/or service. if you dont get ample amplification with a known good source, then its the poweramp. however i doubt that is the case, they are not as complicated as the trio preamp.

I have a kingsley jester so ill try plugging that into the poweramp, that should reveal a bit more..

Thanks....

Well just ran the jester into the poweramp and the walls are knockin ;)
At lest its not a poweramp problem..

Thanks for the help guys....Time to flipthe trio back to the dude i bought it from...

Wish me luck. . .

Found the culprit!
A brand new tube had failed....Whipped in another and she's happy as Larry!
Thanks!
