After a lot of research online, etc for new Seymour Duncan pickups for my Charvel model 5fx tuned to drop B and originally thinking of going with a Duncan TB-6 Distortion for the bridge and a Cool Rails single coil for the neck and after talking to my guitar guy that does my setups, etc he recommended the Duncan SH-13 Dimebucker with an Orange Drop .047 Cap to tame some of the high end of the Dimebucker or an Invader for the bridge and a Lil '59 single coil for the neck. What do you guys think? Now I'm starting to lean towards the Duncan SH-13 Dimebucker & Lil '59 for the neck

What tone are you going for? The duncan distortion is my goto for most heavy rock/metal...

Here's is the link to our band's Reverb Nation page with a couple of our songs to get an idea soundwise

My guitar guy really got me wondering about the Invader too

And the lil'59 isnt a single coil is it?

Yes the Lil '59 is a single coil

Ok, its a single sized humbucker.. Why the dimebucker over the distortion? Seems if youre using a certain resistor to fix the highs on the dimebucker, why start with something you have to fix?

That's why I was checking out the Invader as well, I played on one of my guitar guy's guitars he had an Invader straight to a 500K alpha volume pot into my Mesa some time ago and it sounded really good. I think he had it tuned down whole step D tuning. I remember I plugged it into my Mesa Tverb head inso my marshall 4x12

The Duncan Tone Wizard actually recommended the Dimebucker too

I only had one guitar with a Duncan Distortion in the bridge and it was an older Epiphone Korina Explorer and at the time I had it, it was in 1/2 step E tuning and I thought it sounded pretty good but I traded that guitar even up to my friend for the Epiphone les paul custom you see in my Sig. My guitar guy recommended the Dimebucker with an Orange Drop 47 cap cause that's what he did in another customer's Dean Razorback Explosion that already had the Dimebucker and he said it really helped the pickup and tamed the high end. He also recommended the Invader as well

Hey bud, long time.

I've used both. I have a Dimebucker in a Washburn Blackjack and I think it's pretty awesome as is. I had a discussion a while back with a guy on the ESP boards about these pick ups and the guy, who is a major Dimebag fan (he has numerous Dimebag models with these pick ups) and he said that the pick up varied from guitar to guitar, some sounded great, some sounded awful, depending on the guitar.

I had picked up and Invader set for my BC Rich KKV and hated the neck version, the bridge was fine, but didn't blow me away. It's very thick and bass heavy, but nice if you're looking for a different sound.

I'll throw two more in the mix that I recently got and am very impressed with, the first is the SD Alternative 8, it has the Invaders huge sound with a Full Shred's tightness and brightness, a very nice pick up.

The 2nd is the SD Black Winter, this is what I put in the BC Rick KKV instead of the Invaders and they are awesome, very grimy in a good away, but clean up exceptionally well.

Best of luck with the search. What did you end up doing amp wise? I'm testing out my guitar teachers Genz Benz El Diablo 60 head and if I like it, I can score it pretty cheap

Hey what's up! Yea the SD Alternative 8 was the other pickup I was actually looking at too, my Charvel has a Poplar body, neck-thru. My 2 main guitars right now in drop B are the Charvel and then the Epiphone with the JB bridge/Jazz neck. I use the Epiphone a lot more than the Charvel lately but that's cause the Duncans sound damn good in that guitar though I've had other people recommend a different SD bridge pickup for it like an SH-5 Custom or something? I still have the 3203 but haven't used it much. Our show tomorrow I'm using my Mesa Tremoverb head boosted with the Maxon od808 and the Epiphone thru my Marshall 1960 4x12 and my other guitarist's 1960 bottom 4x12

Lots to choose from, I haven't used the SD Custom myself and but it sounds good. It's hard to wrong with any of the pick ups mentioned, I looked up pics of your Charvel and that is sick, I love the Hum/Sin combination.

The Marshall is an awesome amp, I have no plans of getting rid of mine. Best of luck with the search.

I friggin love the Duncan Alternative 8 !
