I want to change the bridge pups in my Epi Studio and my Fender mim Strat. Just put a Hotrail in my Fender American Strat, like it but I wanted it to sound like my Gibson LP. It still had a bit of the Fender twang, Maybe because of the wood thickness or density? Either way, these are the pups that are in my price range and I dont want active. Advise, please.

I have a Pearly Gates in the bridge of my LP and it was a step backwards from stock. I have a jazz in the neck and the jazz is quite a bit louder and more full in the frequency response. I am going to get a JB to toss in the bridge and get a pup that I know is good.

I've never heard anything good about the Dimebucker.
ever.

Those two pickups are worlds apart, but I don't know anyone who has been happy with the Dimebucker.

If you like Dime's tone, just get yourself a real Bill Lawrence L500XL.

It sounds like your on a budget, so check out GFS pickups. I've got 2 of them currently (see signature) and have played a couple more of their models. Great pickups on the cheap. Here's the link to their website.

As far as getting your strat to sound like an LP, don't get your hopes up. You can get rid of the twang that comes with the standard Strat sound, but a pickup change isn't going to turn it into an LP. You just can't get that sound without a big heavy piece of Mahogany for the body.

Is your strat routed for a full size humbucker?

I had a dimebucker i 3 different guitars and liked it better with mahogany than alder but honestly i wouldnt recommend it to anybody, theres much better choices out there.

Pearly gates is a nice pu and i have them in a les paul and im pretty happy with it. I think its very different than a dimebucker thats for sure.

Never played a Dimebucker but never heard anything good about it...this thread adds to the legend.

I used a Pearly Gates for a long time in a LPC when I was playing in a blues/blues rock band. It's a great pickup for rootsier styles. I used it with a Jazz in the neck and they made a great pair...nothing like what was mentioned above about that pairing.

Pearly gates is really bright and vintage sounding.
Check out James Lugo's pickup shootout. That was my Pearly Gates he was using.

The Dime was horrible to me. Sounded like it had a gap in the sound.

You got me wondering. Maybe something is f'ed in the installation of that pup. It is weak and just not good. Worth a shot to see. It is a pretty big drop off from the jazz. Hmmm.....

Sounds like something's wrong to me. Shouldn't have a big volume drop like that.

Thanks for all the info. Dimebuckers out! I will be looking into the Dimarzio Tone Zones, also.

buy my used crap!

how about a Suhr Aldrich for you Epi, and an Anderson H3 for your MIM Strat. $60 for the Aldrich, $50 for the H3, plus $10 for shipping. both pickups are black.

i also have a used Pearly Gates, Dimebucker, JB, 59, Warren D Custom and maybe some others.

for Duncan i'd say try JB in the Epi, and Distortion in the MIM Strat.

Agree with everyone re: the Dimebucker - total shit.

I have a Duncan Distortion in my Epi LP and it sounds great. I'd try that or a JB if you're looking at Duncan.
