One of the better pickup comparisons I've seen. My favs are the Nazgul, Omega, and Black Winter. And I was surprised by this because they are all pretty high output pickups and you'd think they'd be all gainy and congested. But they're probably the most clear, tight, and articulate of the bunch to my ears.

Watch on YT to be able to click the time stamps for each specific model.

Love the omega, had a set for a minute. Sold them to get Xmas money and told myself I'd get some more... Only Duncan I really jived with

I watched this like 100x a long time ago and really hard to choose.

I thought the Livewire was the best active and it's really hard to beat the classic JB.

I guess if I had to choose one it would be the JB but I really liked the Black Winter and Full Shred as well. But each may sound different with my amp and guitar.

Not to mention the riffing was so awesome it is hard to focus.

I'd love to try the Omega. But looks like Duncan doesn't sell them anymore. They were a limited edition or something? I'd also need a trembucker version.

I just put a Pegasus in one of my Duvells (replacing the stock Nazgul). It might be too early to say, but I am actually a bit disappointed. It's very round sounding, and loose, and kind of fizzy. The Nazgul was tight and had a snarl to it. But can sometimes be too stiff or sterile. From the clip, the Omega might be in the right direction.

You have to get the omega through the custom shop

I've watched this. After owning the Km6 and km7 mkII, km6 has Black Winters, Km7 has nazgul/sentient, I prefer the black winters. I like the sentient neck though more than the black winter neck.

That was great. Song is cool. Who is it?

I really liked the Nazgul, black winter and custom.

Once again, I hated the JB. lol

Keith Merrow.

The guy is a creative monster, I love his playing. Idk how you dislike the JB  to each their own. I love that but this video really makes me want to try the Black Winter.

Yeah, that's Keith Merrow. Never heard of him until a few weeks ago. But he's pretty popular on SevenString.org I guess.

The Nazgul and Black Winter sound really good in that clip. The JB didn't really stand out to me. In other news, I ordered an F-spaced/Trembucker version of the Omega pickup from the Duncan Custom Shop. I'm gonna give the Pegasus another week, and then swap in the Peters pickup I have.

Cool comparison. The pickups I liked least in that clip were all the ones I've heard of and/or played (FS, Dist, JB, Custom, C5 although C5 was decent). It was the ones I haven't heard of that I liked the most like the Nazgul, Omega, Pegasus, and Black Winter. I guess that shouldn't surprise me, most of the ones I've heard of were developed before extreme gain was such a common tone. Pickups like the Distortion were developed to help achieve crunchier tones with amps that couldn't get you there but when put it this situation don't (imo) sound good at all.

Maybe I wrote Seymour Duncan off prematurely. The Pegasus sounds pretty good, IMHO.

Don't bother with the SD man. I must have tried most of them already. Check out the Arcane pickup.

hard to beat the duncan distortion for all things rock and metal

Love the distortion in that clip really. For this kind of music at least. I also liked the full shred, Dimebucker was cool as well.

It's funny how these pickup changes almost sound like swapping microphones in front of a cab and in some cases almost as if you used the same mic but positioned it slightly differently :)

Those differences may be more about the feel how the pickup reacts in the first place, but sound wise it was not really too much of a day/night difference, is it? I could live with any of those sounds really.

Agree on the differences. In a couple cases it almost sounded like they went from V30 to G12T-75. After more listening I think I like the Omega the best and I'm generally not a ceramic magnet guy.

I have a nazgul in a Charvel and love it, I use a Pegasus in the neck. I think it's a killer neck pickup.....it seemed flubby in the bridge. You can burn with it in the neck though, I love it there.
