Just installed at set of the Duncan Alnico Pro Slash pickups in my Les Paul. They have a nice single-coil attack with the fatness of a humbucker. So far I'm really digging them. They sound really good through my 5153, and I'll try to get a clip of that the next time I'm at the band room. Here's a clip through my Plexi at the house. I've got the amp just at breakup and I'm using a bit of the CM plexitone to goose the gain a bit. Weber Mass 200 to help with the volume. Overall a good rock sound.

Both the Slash pups and the plexi are sounding great! Those pups remind me a bit of P90's with more tightness and seem to be very versatile.

Yeah, they do have the P90 rawk tone to them. They sound huge through the 5153.

How would you compare them to JBs? Do they come in zebra?

Well, they are PAF output pups. So they have a more open tone than a JB. So it won't push the front end like a JB will, but I really dig them. With gobs of gain they stay defined and the neck pickup just sings. And yes, they do ship in zebra.

I used to have this set. They flat out rocked and behaved just as you described above.

Great rock pups.. i don't have the sig set but I do have the regular Alnico II's which I think he used on the original AFD recordings and I dig em. Great definition yet not too thin. Very natural and open sounding.

I'm not hearing that P90 growl but they do sound good.

They sound more P90 in the room. They feel P90 under the fingers.

Sounds great. I especially love the sound coming out of that neck pickup.

I've always been curious about these, they seem to have a very nice bite and crunch to them. The big one for me is the neck pickups. Havent been into slash for quite some time but one of his strong characteristics is that smooth buttery neck pick up sound, and by the sounds of it they nailed it. Cool pickups!

Sounds great. Looking for a new bridge pickup for my Edwards now. Going between the Duncan Custom, Duncan JB or Suhr Aldrich.

I've had all three. The Custom is my favorite of the ones you are looking at.

Besides the name, what differs these from a regular Alnico II? How do these clean up?

I have a set of Sheptone's with Alnico IV's, but I think I need something with Alnico II's to tame the brightness a bit on this guitar.

That sounds great. I don't understand why everyone has hard on for Alnico 5. Alnico 2 sounds less hard/stiff to me. Glorious mids too. What riff is that BTW?

Alnico 5 pickups tend to have a fatter sound to me, though I do love them both.

That vid sounds sweet!

Basically they went back to the '86 specs for the pickup. Maple spacer and braided cable. The also make the bridge just a bit hotter so that it balances with the neck pickup. Call it a souped up version of the original.
