Has anyone shipped any pedals recently to Canada ? I am curious what costs / hassles etc...are associated with it as I usually don't ship outside of the U.S.

Thanks!

Just go to USPS.com (preferably) or UPS.com and do the 'calculate shipping cost' option and it'll tell you exactly. You just need their Postal Code, and you should be set

Canuck here. Fwiw, USPS is easier & less expensive for smaller items like pedals. There won't be any brokerage fees and there may not be any duties or taxes for the recipient (under a certain threshold ... in my experience they usually don't charge at all).

I agree with beej. I recently bought a pedal from the USA.. pedal cost me $90, UPS brokrage fees cost me $40. USPS is easier on us Canucks..

I just shipped a pedal from Canada to the US (Ontario to California) for I think $19 CAN.

Yes, for the love of Gord, avoid UPS when shipping crossborder. Those crooked fucks basically hold items hostage if they have crossed the border

This. For pedals USPS because canada customs keeps their grubby hands off...most of the time depending on description.

Just make sure to specify to the buyer that once it crosses the border, they are responsible for any taxes or duties....as Kapo pointed out, they usually let the stuff go if it is a lower cost.

Yes use USPS for smaller items to Canada. You don’t have to do anything extra except fill out a description and value when you are at the post office. “Used guitar pedal, $100”. Their online tools will give you a very accurate estimate of cost.

As a Canadian who has got burned before, don’t ever send UPS or FedEx to Canada for small things!! We get burned by extra brokerage fees and taxes that normally won’t happen for small items like pedals and pickups mailed through the post that usually sail through the border.

Most Canadian buyers here will know this and advise you before the sale to send USPS.

I live closer to the border now so I just signed up for a parcel service that lets me use a U.S. address where I can pick it up and bring it across the border myself. Very useful for amps and guitars etc….

You said it.. those stupid fees are ok when we are buying an amp, guitar, or something worth something but getting those charges on a pedal or something similar is a huge slap in the face.

Reverb has been good to me though. Buying from other canucks and not paying taxes because it is between two people and not a merchant. Problem is that you wait a while for things to become available because we seem to buy and flip less. (probably due to fees for importing that stuff in the first place to the initial buyer)
