Any suggestions on how to ship guitars safely? UPS / FedEx?
Packaging suggestions for hard shell cased guitars...

thanks

go to you local guitar shop and ask if they have any guitar boxes. They should keep a few on hand. Even if it cost you $10, still cheaper and easier than buying material to wrap it.

I get boxes from Uline and filling around the hardcase with paper or something. Not too tight because I want some cushion between the box and the case in the event of a drop. Inside the case, I stuff everything with soft-ish packing paper so that sucker cannot move around, including making sure the neck is well supported. I also leave the guitar tuned to pitch and put the paper between the frets and the strings to avoid damage there. I've shipped about 4 guitars (most with tiltback headstocks) this way without any issues.

i support the backs of the guitar necks with bubble wrap, IE no gaps. I also take bubble wrap and roll it up, stick it in empty areas of the box and also make sure the box corners are lifted/isolated with bubble wrap so that the cases wont take any damage if dropped on a corner.

Shipped a guitar to ESP USA like this and was complimented on the packaging detail.

Search for Dan Erliwine's (sp) how to ship a LP. Step by step with pics.

Don't ship like this asshole did to me once.....

For an electric, go to your Guitar Center and ask them for an acoustic guitar shipping box. If you have the original cardboard shipping box for the guitar, place that inside the larger acoustic box.
Use bubble wrap or Styrofoam peanuts to surround the inner box. Inside the guitars hardshell case, you can use, tissue paper, newspaper, ect. to surround the guitar body to keep it from moving in the case. slightly detune the strings or not. Make sure if a Floyd trem place paper under bridge plate against body. Also at the headstock end, bubble wrap and make sure that area is protected and not moving around...pray. and insure.
Here are the boxes I used to ship my departed 2004 YJM, original shipping case:

Hope this helps! It arrived perfectly and the buyer couldn't believe how well it was packed..

Within Conus, should be $35-$55 ground depending on weight, size and distance.

anything you can do to go above and beyond packing wise is great, but it's a fucking gamble every time you send something out.

I received an Agile LP about 10 years ago in one of the triangular shaped cardboard guitar boxes like the one in the pic. There were two small newspaper balls wadded up in there and a diaper wrapped around the headstock. I am still amazed that the guitar arrived OK.
