Should Fractal make an effects only rack piece?

they've probably got something up their sleeve... ;)

They should pair it with a foot controller imo, or at least have that option.

That would be great. I ditched my Ultra in favor of a Marsha because I found myself using the BE and HBE models for most of my tones (among a few other reasons). Since then I find myself missing the effects, although my return to stompboxes has been cool in its own way.

No, I'd rather they make a pedalboard friendly amp/cab/mic box, with user upgradable IRs. I have my effects more than covered with a G-System and a Nova System, I'm using a Tonelab table top unit in the insert loop of my G-System to get amp/cab models for a direct board...having a Fractal modeling option for my board would be a great for me - if the price was right, ~$1K IMO.

i'd rather a floor unit like digitech has with the GSP1101 rack and RP1000 floor unit version of the same thing. that with switchable loops to add in your own stomp box pedals like the TC G-System would be killer.

i use a GSP1101 in 4 cable method now with my 5150 to give it FX and a clean channel and i'd love to swap it for an axe but i don't want to deal with rack stuff anymore. i was tempted to sell the GSP and buy the RP just to get rid of the lone rack unit i have now.

I am no expert, but I seem to recall a discussion on this topic where some people who understend hardware and software argued that is wouldn't reduce the cost of the unit.

In my opinion, the price of the Axe, as is, is a steal, even for effects only. You don't need to use the amp sims....

I sold my Axe a while back, but have since bought another one....there is just too damn much that is good inside the thing.

Currently, I am using it in the 4CM with my Fortin Cali mod. I use it for effects and my clean tone.

The thing is: Fractal is a one man show, similar like Diezel or Cameron.
look how long it took for Peter Diezel to bring on the Einstein or the Schmidt.
And bassplayers are still waiting for "Lucy"

How long were the Fractalusers waiting for the Fractal Footcontroller?
If I remember correctly it was one year and a half....

A single Effects-only Axe would be here not before ~ 2014 :scared:

I think Fractal Audio should put all their cards into the Axe FX. Yeah, it could be cool to see an effects-only unit, but I think he should put every bit of focus on the Axe FX and make one truly superb machine rather than branching into other projects. Anyways, look at the prices of Eventide's units, a Fractal Audio effects unit probably wouldn't be that much cheaper than the Axe FX.

I sent them an email inquiring about purchasing a unit...4 days now...no response. Not sure If if I should give them any of my cash.
Axe FX's are insanely popular right now and I'm sure he's overloaded with work and other emails, so give it a bit more time, I'm sure you'll get a response.

They are also in the middle of moving to a new larger facility

I've been thinking about getting one "Just for effects" but....would still be overkill even for just those. I'd like to find something that just did very good chorus and delay...Thats it..those two and without 128-256 different patches of the same shit over and over. Give me 6 or 8 patches and I'm good but even then I only use 3 different settings

I think the price of effects-only or emulation-only would be very near the price of both combined. I suppose there's the possibility to downgrade the processor or have less memory, but seriously... The price difference would be rather minimal.

I wonder why the AxeFX hasn't really dropped in price though, considering the components must have gotten cheaper over the years. I don't buy the "very special and unique hardware" excuse, as a dedicated modern computer with real-time extensions (as can be enabled in the Linux kernel, or even QNX) should be able to run pretty convincing simulations. Of course, software can be pirated, where as the AxeFX is hardware and hence assured income – at least until some far away company reverse engineers both the hardware and the models and comes out with a competing clone.

Not that the AxeFX people don't deserve a nice profit... I surely hope that a significant part of that money goes into R&D and we will see a better, even more realistic AxeFX II appearing.

I've heard of some warts starting to appear with them mainly, the 10 year backup battery lasting only 1 year or so...A few guys have had to replace them already..

Overall, one rack space is much more desirable to me. Usually, 2+ spaces is to accomodate tubes and transformers. Other than the display, what in the Axe is so big?

I agree with Dave, Fractal should come out with a Snax lite that is just effects. How sexy would that be??? Separate units, one rack space each... amps or effects. "combinable" with some kind of special cable, like USB or something... into an Ultra. Also, just go for broke and have the Ultra available as is...

edit: on the other hand, my effects needs are minimal and I have been more than happy with my G Major. Still, the idea of a two rack space thingie that cam plug directly into a PA for maximum portability is attractive.

To cool the kick-ass processor in there.

Whatever happened to the Axe-PC that Fractal was supposedly developing? Got dang, but those Fractal guys are tight lipped wrt their product development.

And they've got to be coming out with an Axe ll pretty soon. I know most folks think it's still at the top of the heap but that hardware's gotta be at least 4 years old.

I think the Axe-PC got the back burner until the software editor is finalized. Also the processor is still the top of the line embedded signal processor chip on the market, I've looked lol

They should make it so it could fit inside a guitar, then cover the guitar with knobs and sliders to control each of the effects instead of allowing it to be programmed from a computer via USB. Perhaps use a traditional body like... oh I dont know a Firebird but add a "X" to the name to make it seam more edgy. Then really hype it up as a way to revolutionize the...

oh never mind.
