You need access to the proper carpet for that sharpening trick. None of that in my house.

I like Ultex Sharp's. They have a crisp attack that works nicely with my darker voiced amps.

I also use the Hetfield Black Fang picks. They are more neutral sounding. Not bright or overly thick sounding. Fast attack, without much positive or negative tonal influence on my tone.

I used to use Jazz III XL and loved them. But no store stocks them anymore here.
Only the crappy regular III's. which I can't stand.

I use Dunlop Tortex .60mm the orange ones. i sometimes use the tortex .73mm yellow ones....all of my tortex pics were ordered in black like 2 years ago so when i grab a pick i don't know which one it is until i start to strum....so sometimes it's the .60mm sometimes the .73mm. i would love to try the new tortex 3's

Here you go; 24 Pack of Jazz III XL for $12.59 shipped; http://www.ebay.com/itm/24-Dunlop-J...Accessories&hash=item20ca3af091#ht_2429wt_974

I found the carpet trick works with the Tortex, but the Ultex isn't going for it.

Jazz IIIs. I'm using the Ultex ones at the moment, but I'm fine with any of the variants. No XL for me, though. Too big (that's what she said).

Thanks, but I don't order online. Inside Canada maybe, but I'm diggin' my other choices now anyways.

Theres a bit of everything I Like in here nothing under 1.00 for the most part, I like heavy picks. Mainly been using Tortex 1.14 pitch black the normal sized ones

Been using Gator Grip 1.5 mm forever, would be lost without them.

Have gone through a lot of pics but settled on these a few years ago. I really like how the raised logo feels and makes the pics grip. These are Planet Waves brand heavy.

Herco Flex 50's

I turn them around and pick with the gritty side, fat corner, not the point. I also pre-bend them to fit the contours of my fingers, like this;

I used to use the heavy snarling dogs brain picks,, but they weren't heavy enough. Then I used the Cool Picks Juratex Heavies for a few years, and they were nice picks. Been using these for like 2 years, love em.

This thread got me inspired o try some ultex. Gotta say the sharp point sticks it . Got a few thicknesses.

This will provide the reason to abandon all honey-do related items for the day

Good 'ol Fender Medium...or Dunlop Medium. I've experimented with TONS of others and I always come back to these. They have just the right amount of flexibility for nice strumming, and are rigid enough when you choke up on them for more speed. The give just the right amount of "hair" to the tone when they hit the strings that I can't seem to get from others I've tried.

Oh no, should not go there with me. I have too many. Unfortunately, you have to buy to try then you are left with a lot you do not prefer and unlike pedals, amps, etc. cannot flip. Fortunately, they are not as pricey as the later, but you CAN spend some loot on them. Using Gravity Picks. I have found Chris great to work with. It helps that he is close by. Not too pricey IMO especially for what you get. Once you play them you will not want to go back to the standard Dunlop Ultex, Gator grips, tortex, and like. Looking to fine tune this area a bit more.

I'm pedestrian and just use Fender Heavys...
+1....although I admit to recently trying Dunlop Ultex 1.0's; however, it sems like after all the picks I've tried I keep coming back to plain 'ol Fender heavy's.

Dunlop Ultex 1.0mm standard shape. I have tried others and keep coming back to these.

The Sharps are nice, but for whatever reasons the standard shape feels more comfortable in its attack. Tried the Jazz picks but they are too small for me. My fingers keep hitting the strings.

I used to play 0.73mm picks with thick strings. Now I switched to a thicker pick with thinner strings. Much easier to play and my tone sounds better!
