i am contemplating getting one.

looking at the carvin 727 looks nice.

the ibanez stuff looks pretty good too.

lets see what you got!

what recommendations do you have for me

what string gauges do you use?

what tunings?

to floyd or not to floyd?

I like heavy music.

My Loomis. I like it. It's a challege since I've never owned a 7 before, but fun. Loomis plays some pretty heavy shit, so it should cover heavy.

Custom RandyRhoads by Mauro Liberatore. BKP pickups (C-Warpig) It's got a HUGE neck (thick) but it's easy (at least for my hands!) to shred.

what string gauges do you use? GHS 14-70 + a 11 for the high Eb (it's easier to get than a big 70)
what tunings? Eb all the way! see signature
to floyd or not to floyd? I can't live without my floyd

If you want to go with a production guitar: Try the Ibanez UV777. The neck is EASY. Super slim, kinda like a 6 string (I don't like ibanez guitars usualy..) Seriously, before getting a 7, I borrowed my friend's universe and after maybe 2 hours I was adapted.
You need to change the pickups for the br00talz, 'cause the dimarzio have no output and they're not tight enough to handle the low-end. I just think it's a lil too pricey for what you get (especialy since you *need* to change the pups IMO) but it's a good axe.

hope it helps !

Don't buy one of these, all it does is cramp my hand and make me crazy, and you'll save $3000.

It's a good guitar,the pickups suck,kinda muddy,but this is a baritone,so when it's tuned to b
it still sounds like it's coming from hell.

Kind of hard to see but its a Carvin 727. Amazing guitar, purple translucent with chrome hardware. Tung oiled neck, stainless steel frets with a swamp ash body. I plan on replacing the humbucker in the bridge but I actually like it pretty well so far.

Oh for the money, you can't go better. In fact, even if money weren't a factor I'd still get it, which is what I did. JP7 was my second choice, fabulous guitar but the Carvin neck felt better to me and I really was set on getting Swamp Ash.

Get a Carvin, you will not be dissapointed. Well hopefully. Just make sure you give it a good look over, they have had some QC problems but nothing like Gibson   .

By the way, I play some very heavy stuff, and this thing rulez for it. I customized it to exactly what I wanted, they shield and wire the guitar RIGHT for once... Jeez took me 5 guitar brands to see that

2 things I recommend if you get a Carvin is the Tung Oiled neck and the Stainless Steel frets. Both make the guitar more than worth it IMO.

EDIT: Big no no on the floyd from my experience. I have never found a use for that thing and I think Dimebag was the last guy to make it actually work. 6's I could kind use them, but on a 7 I found myself using it even less.

Its a pain in the ass too. On a 7 you will greatly appreciate easy tuning...

I also had a Carvin, and I regret selling it.
Very nice guitar, played like butter, and sounded great after a PU change. The original Carvin PUs were a little too polite for me. (The neck PU was nice, but it got an EVO7 in the bridge. It was the hardtail version.

I brought this on a wim, however it got fuck all use. Nice guitar though.

Here are a few coffee tables. I have a few more taken apart and awaiting new bodies.

When I was an ESP and Ibanez dealer in 2000, I went through every 7 string we had in stock. This ESP/LTD H-207 sounded the best by far so I snagged it. I have barely played it at all but kept it because it sounds so good. Recently, I wrote some new material for my band and we are going to use the sevens with that material. I put a SD '59 in the neck a long time ago but kept the DD bridge humbucker because it really sounds great. However, I just bought a SD Distortion for the bridge which will be here tomorrow.

I really like the Ash body and the neck is really comfortable. I would highly recommend getting one of these. They don't make them anymore but they pop up on ebay pretty frequently.
