Silly IR Question...

So, been in love with my ISP gear for several years... the Theta Pro IR's are proprietary, and no third party loader... no problem... love what's there.

But, for a small set up in another space in the house, I'm using my Theta rack preamp and needed an cab sim for my studio monitors, so I grabbed up a Nux Solid Studio and very much impressed. Played around, found some great sounds with the default cab sims. Loaded up some Celestion Creambacks and the Alnico Cream 1x12's and 4x12's and still got some great sounds...

BUT, I'm a little confused. On the Nux, you can engage or disengage the power amp sim, which is very cool. BUT, all the IR's I can find have several versions that used different mics to capture the IR. Since you can't disengage the Nux's mic options, and the actual IR is already using a mic, is it being 'double miced?' (and does that even make sense)?? Or is the on board mic options bypassed when you load up an IR to that slot, and when you switch around the mics on the Nux, it 're-engages?'

Don't get me wrong, finding lots of usable and great sounds, I just didn't know if there was somehow a 'pure' IR without a 'mic' so when explore mic options, it's not being 'double miced.'

I'm sure there's a simple answer, and I'm sure you can't capture an IR without a mic, just curious...

Thanks!

A bit confused by your thinking but an I.R in this context is the capture of a mic and speaker/cab.

There’s no double miking or funny business, and it sounds like you’re just switching I.R’s as God intended, pure as they come ?

Yes... I know it's the capture of a mic and speaker, BUT, since it's already captured that way, and then run through the onboard mic sims on the Nux... does it 'erase' or 'disengage' the mic option so you hear the IR (mic and cab) captured as it was, or is it still running through the onboard mic? Either way, as non-existent deities didn't intend (because they aren't real), it sounds good... just curious as to the process with a device like the Nux where you can't turn off the mic options; the knob has to be somewhere.

(By the way, I think if I have the mic set to say, a 57, on the Nux and load up my own personal IR that is, say, a Royer, it sounds the same if I load that same IR when the mic knob is set elsewhere... so maybe it bypasses on that knob setting)...
