Im looking for a replacement for my 70's MXR distortion plus. Used as a clean boost with my Cornford MK50 II(with amp boost off) it adds a cool element that takes it very much into cranked plexi territory at moderate volumes...

The problem is the pedal doesn't have an LED and the sound difference is so subtle it's tough to tell it's on unless I switch to a clean patch and forget to turn the MXR off...then I can hear the slight dirt it's adding.

Is there something on the market that is very similar tone wise (not the reissue...it's a lot different) but has an LED? Im thinking BB preamp or RC booster....tried the Keeley Katana and didnt dig it....

thoughts on what to try?

You could buy one of the earlier ones with an LED or have a pre-LED one modded. You could remount your guts into a new housing with an led if you are worried about originality. It would still probably come out cheaper than a newer boutique pedal. If you like them that much, I cant think of a reason to change.

Great ideas. Hadnt thought of gutting a new one and putting the old ones innards in it.
Thanks!

If it ain't broke. :D

I actually have an early 80's MXR Distortion + that has an LED and I've modded it to be true bypass. I'd be willing to let that go as I don't use it very often anymore. PM me if you're interested.
