Its pretty well known he is an avid surfer and admits to going weeks without touching guitar. It shows in his playing and his technique - things like that never really develop if you dont do the time.

I don't know. I really enjoyed that! While I am a bigger Metallica fan I am also a huge Black Sabbath fan as well. To me it seemed like Kirk added his style to the song, there isn't anything wrong with that in my opinion.

What comes to mind is a video I saw a couple years ago in the special education course I was taking at my university. Derek who is a savant has an incredible talent for piano. The entire video is a great watch but if you want to skip to the part I am referring to it is at about 3:05. I mean the song is still Fur Elise but in Mozart's style. Just as is this is SB's song done in Metallica's style.

Just because a band does a cover song doesn't mean they have to do it identical to tone and notes. Artist interpretation, they are not a Tribute band which I would expect more out of. The Foo fighters did "Rock n Roll" WITH Jimmy Page and JPJ and it was off but still sounded great.

I really do not like Metallica but they seem to do fine. Splitting hairs and personal preference.
