Humbuckers for full-on power, but singles (Tele, P-90, etc.) when articulation is needed, clean or dirty. I have an Epi LP with Duncan Phat Cat P-90's in it and it can go from sparkling clean to articulate, shreddy death metal.

Humbuckers all the way. Haven't had a single single coil since I traded my Charvel Model 6 back in 1996. From time to time I get an urge to try some singles but it goes away quickly hehe.

I pretended there was no choice between the two. I looked at it as EITHER HB or SC, not both.

I'm a HB kinda guy if I really had to pick only one.

I like both but I hate true single coils, I like stacked hums that retain the single coil tone without the hum and noise that go with them. I like the single coil tone in neck and mid positions, can't stand them in the bridge, gotta have a humbucker there.

I've been using rail-type single coil-sized pickups forever, so i voted for humbuckers. I do have them wired to split if i wanted, though.

Humbucker in the bridge single in the neck. Or H-S-H is another fave.

I'll take P90s

I have no P90's right now & really should.

I am kind of surprised how few people picked only single coils.

I like humbuckers for metal and neck position leads or jazzy cleans. Single coils sound better to me EVERYWHERE else. I would take a high output, meaty single coil over a humbucker for most rock uses. I am currently doing a metalcore project using a telecaster with a Bare Knuckle Piledriver... I plan on seeing how far I can take a single coil into metal territory. I should've vote "both" but for some reason looked over that option. I prefer the clarity and crunch of single coils in most cases though, so my vote wasn't really wrong or anything. I don't have too much experience with P90s but I've been curious about Gibson LP Jrs, maybe putting some super high output P90 in one. I have a Fender JA-90 with some small P90s in it, and that sounds great.

Fuck it, I love all guitars and pickups!
