I need a super hot single coil neck pickup for my charvel. It’s currently an HSS, wired only for H, but I want something in the neck for HS and to leave the middle unpopulated.

The bridge is a Tonezone.

I was looking at the dimarzio chopper but it got me thinking, what were used as single coils in all of those HS ESPs and super strats back then?

Seymour Duncan Hot or Cool Rails, or the ESP brand knock offs of those for Lynch. Di Marzio SDS1s (Jake E Lee), or FS1s (Yngwie or Gilmour)

I dunno about what ESP used specifically but OBL pickups were used in a lot of high end stuff in the 80's. They're still pretty sought after by some people

Duncan SSL-1’s were in alot of Kramers back in the day. Think Lynch used them.

Duncan Hot Stack or Qurter Pounder also.

... and the Duncan Hot Rails.

My guitarist used 'em back in '87 in his Strat. Sounded great.
