Looking for a 4x12 to pair up with my DSL50. Right now i'm using a custom 2x12 with g12h30's and it sounds good, but my other guitarist is moving up to a 4x12 so I need to as well.

Not sure what cab or what speakers to get for that matter. I love my 4x12 with Stan spec Weber greenies but I am not hauling that one around for gigs :D .

Get a new 425a/b cab with G25c's? or should I get a 1960a/b with v30's and beer spilled on it? Will be for mostly blues/hard rock stuff.

of those choices the 425 cab in straight version...

that said I would recommend a Scumback or Bogner cab loaded with Scumbacks or a Wizard Straight with Rock 20's. Those cabs are the best IMO. Also the Marshall Handwired with G12H's are great for the $.

I would go with a straight 412 with a mixture of Greenbacks and G12H30's (either celestion or scumback equivilant). I think a 412 with WGS ET-65's and V30's would work well too.

Those 425 cabs are pure sex. Especially since you'll be rockin a 50 watter.
The V30 1960 won't dissapoint, plus those speakers really cut in a live mix.

I actually preferred the tone of my stock marshall V30 slant cab with that DSL over my Bogner cab. Strange but true!

Yeah, it was weird. I was swapping cabs around with different heads and thought the Bogner should have ruled over all. The DSL still sounded good with the Bogner cab, it just didn't sound AS good. I had three cabs I was swapping around - a Mesa recto oversize 'armor' cab, a V30 Marshall 4x12, and a Bogner 4x12. My dual recto rackmount sounded awesome through the matching cab, my Bogner 101B sounded like shit through the recto cab, so did my SLO. I think there is no such thing as a 'best' cab, it depends on the amp.

I can't help myself. I think the VM straight in purple is badass. :scared:

One of these days I'm going to build myself (cuz I'm too cheap to buy these days) a straight and slant for side-by-side comparison, because I think if I have only one 4x12 (and two is pretty silly these days), I like the slants.

I am in the minority because I prefer slants tone wise. When you add in the added projection benefits from a slant, it is a no brainer for playing live(for me). My best advice is to look around for a used jcm800 cab with some g1265s, most people that have these don't know they are any better than a jcm900 cab (<$400). If you wait and prey you can get a 70s marshall cab for less than 700 and there is not much that beats that.

Straight cabs sound better to me, If I'm on a really small stage, I put a tiny bit of wood underneath the front, so I can hear it better.

Greenbacks sound really good with the DSL's.

Mainly a matter of preference on slant vs Straight.
You can hear yourslef better with slant.
Lot of people think the straighhts sound beefier, but I just think they are hearing less highs, without the angled speakers and just think it sounds that way.
I'd go slant, nice to hear yourself better.

well they do have more wood, which would make them sound beefier

bump from January

Considering adding a slant 4x12 cab to hear myself better on stage.
Found an empty one for $350 w/ s/h.

i agree with this!

425 with greenbacks for a 50 watter. if i had a 100 watter id get the V30's OR if you are using this cabinet for live gigging only and not studio recordings, get the V30 cab with beer spills and ripped tolex.

That's actually what I'm running now, GH50L > 425A
