Slaving a JCM2000

I have a rack rig that I would like to run in conjunction with the preamp of a JCM2000. The head has no aux out just a fx send and return. Is this even possible? I'd like to go...

JCM2000---->Line 6 Echo, Mod, and Filter Pros---->Rivera TBR5---->Sunn 4x12

I know it's kind of dumb not to run the JCM2000 with the FX in the loop, but I haven't even used my power amp other than to test it when it arrived.

I am a bit green when it comes to the whole slaving thing. Can I use the FX send to racks, to power amp, to cab? What about the speaker outs on the head? I'm assuming I will need a dummy load not to blow the amp. I may just have to bite the bullet and leave the Rivera at home. If someone could please lend me their opinion on this subject it would be appreciated.

Yup, that will work fine but you will need either a dummy load or a second cab so that you don't blow up your Marshall.

The hookup would be Jcm2000-->Dummy load or cab---->Effects send of JCM out to your effects and then the -------->o/p of your effects to the slave amp(riveras effects return)- out to a cab or cabs.

I hope this helps

Cool thanks. Eventually when my M4 arrives I plan to run a W/D setup. I'll be sure to snap some shots once I've formed Voltron. :rock:

The other way you could do it is with a Hotplate set to load. Then you could either send the effects send (preamp only) or the line out of the hotplate (whole amp) through your effects rig and into a separate power amp.

+1

make sure to always have a load on the head. Hotplate works really well in this case. I use it with my Variplex since it doesn't have a FX loop and just do a W/D into a VHT 2/50/2 sounds massive!

Absolutely correct! I didn't mention this because he said that he wanted the preamp out of the JCM2000. Taking the hotplate out will give him the preamp and power section (my prefered methond anyway!)

Ahh, he may think he wants preamp only, but you need the same amount of equipment to do it both ways, so you might as well move the one cord over for a look-see. ;)

One other question I have is in the event I elect to run the speaker out from the JCM2000 to a cab. I don't have a hotplate and don't intend to invest anything in the setup b/c my preamp should be here in a month or so. Will I have to worry about ohm mismatches? The Sunn cab is 16ohms gt75's in parallel so each channel of the Rivera power amp is set to 16 ohms. The JCM only has a 4 and 8 ohm selector. If I were to run the speaker out from the head to an 8 ohm cab with v30's would I potentially damage anything?

It has one 16 ohm out on the back of the head on the marshall. The load on the head is seprate from the wet cabs. So I run to 16 ohm 4x12's with the mesa boogie and then 8 ohms out dry from the dsl.
I run efx send out of my head into lexicon then mesa 395 and out to the wet cabs.
