I was shocked that Dave said that Slayer was taking home a mere 10% of what they make on tour, the rest going to management or 'expenses' or whatever. Is this a 21st century music business thing, or did someone not read the small print?

I hope Mike Patton has a new Fantomas album ready to go!

Saw them this past Sunday here in Sydney at Soundwave Festival. Dette played for Anthrax and Slayer. Anthrax were awesome, even without Charlie and Rob. Sounded tight. Slayer were absolute shit. And I say this as someone who doesn't mind their stuff. Highlight of Slayer's set was someone in the crowd shouting "Where's Dave?" to which Tom replied "Dave's not here man". That was pretty cool.

I have to say, Jon Dette is a fucking awesome drummer. And he's a lefty too :) Hope he doesn't stay in Slayer

I don't understand why at that level you don't have what you're going to get paid worked out in advance. And if you agreed and signed the contract who cares if later you find out it's less than you feel you could have got. You agreed on what was offered and negotiated. I guess he has the right to try and re-negotiate for the next time but they have the right to say no

I feel Slayer is bigger than any individual member. Except for Tom, who can't be replaced because of his voice. As long as the person filling in has respect, like Holt for e.g., even KK could be replaced for a tour. These bands are in their classic rock phase and like Anthrax touring without Charlie and having Andreas fill in for Scott Ian, it doesn't matter to the crowd as long as they hear those songs played well. Hate to admit it and stoke LSD but as long as the voice that is known is up front we are all for the most part replaceable.

Some things never change. Kinda like when he left the band back in the 90s because he wanted to travel with his family. The other guys didn't like that because they felt he wasn't 'part of the "band"' because he wanted to be with his family and not hangin with 'the guys'. Lombardo is a cool dude with good family values

Those other guys are idiots! I can't stand to even look at KK...the guy is a major douche

Typical metalhead douchebag swines...Part of the reason I could care less for 99 percent of the genre.

Looking at his statement, it appears he wants to resolve the issue and keep playing with them. I am sure there is more to the story but I will say this, Lombardo is just as much a part of Slayer as the rest of the band. In my opinion his influence on drummers in metal was enormous, especially after Reign in Blood.

To me the best thing about slayer has been their drumming...Dave was the shit and still is, when Paul joined he steped up to the plate. Tom to me is amazing as well. The guitar riffs are killer the lead playing has always sucked but it fit the sound... Dave is really amazing though there isnt a type of music he cant play his jazz is out of this world...Dude total slays, and this sucks as I have been a slayer fan since show no mercy....

KK quoted in an interview in Soundwave TV, Australia:

“It’s unfortunate that Dave couldn’t be with us. I mean I planned on him being here, up until the Monday before I left. And then I saw trouble in paradise, and since I’m the mastermind on making decisions like this, I was, like, ‘Alright, I’ve got a backup plan. Just in case.’ ‘Cause I would have hated to have just Australia blown out. Can you imagine how shitty that would have been? I love Australia, so I did what I thought was best, and we pulled it off.”
“Tom did. Tom‘s been on the fence about Dave for awhile and I was pretty much the one that said, ‘Nah, I’m not comfortable moving on.’ And then it got thrust in our face and I took action immediately and I got a very lucky, you know, culmination of things that happened.”

I've never liked Slayer...some of the worst guitar playing ever committed to tape, not to mention absolute garbage production. They suck, they've always sucked, and they'll continue to suck...talentless hacks.

I hung out with Tom once though and he's a cool dude

Tru dat.

Slayer without Lombardo is then merely a Slayer cover band.
