So, I've had the Small Box for over a year now. I had the head originally, but recently switched it over to a combo since I run in-ears. I don't need the 4x12 anymore, nor the back pain. It comes with a Celestion Creamback H75 and it's just a fantastic sounding speaker. Fits this combo perfectly. The combo is more airy than the 4x12 but I don't miss the 4x12 with this combo. Call me crazy...
This amp does it all for me. The plexi channel I run the gain dimed. If I need cleans, they are there by just rolling down the guitar volume. Seriously, just a great sounding plexi and does everything a plexi does. The BE channel I usually run the gain around 3 o'clock sometimes a little lower. If you turn it down around noon and start rolling up the gain...you can feel and hear right where things get going and that's where I leave it. Between those two channels and my guitar volume...anything is possible. In my application anyway...if you want the brootz, you'll need to goose the front end. They're reactive, dynamic, and have THAT feel with them I really have grown to appreciate. I play mostly covers and we do everything from Modern Country to Pop to Classic Rock to Heavy Alternative. I have no issues getting the tones to cover all that.
I can't say enough about this amp, particularly in the combo form. The amp gives the goods, is voiced wonderfully, and offers everything I need. I don't run a boost or OD in front, because I personally don't need too. I can see the plus of doing this and might give it go in the future. Even more tones in an already tonally packed package.
Life is good. Thank you Dave.
