Small Box bright or just my cab?

I notice in a lot of youtube vids people generally have the presence and treble at noon and above and their clips sounds great. I also hear people say that Friedmans are voiced a bit dark. I find myself dialing the presence and treble fairly low (like 9-10 o'clock) to avoid ice pick highs.

I like bright, crunchy Marshally goodness as much as the next guy. But raising the presence and treble above noon is crazy bright on the BE channel with a little volume. The cab is a Friedman 2x12 and is currently loaded with a 65W Creamback and V30, both fairly new. Is it just a matter of breaking these speakers in a bit more or is this typical?

I've got a SmallBox, I would not call it bright, definitely no ice pick highs. I play it through a 1x12 with 75W Creamback, and also 2x12 with 25w Greenbacks. I also have a 1x12 with the 65W Creamback. Possibly the new V30, those seem a bit bright/harsh to me when new, pickups possibly?? Tough one.....

I believe it's a cab thing. Comparing my Friedman 4x12 to the 2x12, the 2x12 is so much brighter to my ears. Maybe needs breaking in.

I don't know, I had 2 Creambacks in there before I swapped one for the V30. I thought they were even brighter.

In your opinion which speaker of yours is the perfect match with Smallbox? I´m ordering a combo and I´ve been thinking about the Celestion Creamback G12H-75... Thanks.

I have a Dirty Shirley 1x12 extension cab with a G12M-65 Creamback that sounds awesome with my Smallbox. Haven't tried the 75W Creamback yet.

Interesting timing. i just got a bogner helios cab today for my smallbox w/V30 and cream back. Sounds buzzy and very bright/brittle. Was expecting it to sound big. I also have a splawn smaller 2x12 with V30s (not super broken in, but a few months at least), it's much deeper sounding. I'm going to try to accelerate the break in. I have an oversized avatar w/V30s that sounds huge with the small box, so I was expecting the bogner to sound more like that. Time will tell...

Yeah, my other cab with a Creamback sounds great. I'm going to try to break these in with a looper running into a solid state amp. Bright/buzzy/brittle pretty much describes what I'm hearing too unless I run the amp really dark.
