I have only had a chance to play my new Smallbox head for about 30 minutes, but I am already extremely impressed. The feel and note definition are probably the best I have ever experienced. The tone of the amp is dead on perfect. I plugged my 16 ohm 2x12 cabinet into the speaker jack closest to the effects loop jacks. Does it matter which speaker jack I use? I am assuming the answer is no, but I thought I would ask.

Dave really did hit it out of the park with this one.

I have also found that the stock tubes seem to sound better in the Smallbox than the NOS tubes I tried. It was surprising. I am guessing that amp was voiced using the ARS/JJ and Chinese tubes. The master volume does work well, but I still plan to buy an attenuator like the Rivera Rockcrusher.

I can't speak for the Smallbox but I tried an attenuator on my JJ and didn't gain anything, which was pretty much the consensus here before I bought it. I picked up a Power Station which I can't say anything bad about, but I played with it for a week and disconnected it. It didn't really help the sound with the master volume on the amp working so well, and I thought it took a bit of the feel/dynamics away from the amp.

Thanks Greg, I think I have changed my mind about the attenuator. The master volume does work really well.
