I'm about getting a new amp and I love the Friedman-clips I've heard of the BE100, Smallbox 50 and Kitchen Sink Mod. Here's my concern: The BE 100 is to expensive here in Europe (about $4700 + $150 shipping), so I need to go with the Smallbox 50 or getting a Marshall 1987x or a Marshall 1959SLP and send it to Friedman so he can mod it with the Kitchen Sink mod. If I go with the Smallbox 50 I need to save up some cash (will take me about 1 year). If I go for the Kitchen Sink mod I can get the cash in a couple of months. What's your thought about it? Should I wait a year and get the cash for the Smallbox 50 or should I go with the Kitchen Sink? Is there any major tonal differences between the two? I know the clips on the Internet won't do justice and that's why I ask. We don't have any store in Sweden selling these, so I can't try any myself.

I have a Smallbox, and it really sounds great. Best amp I ever had.

The 1987x or 1959SLP sounds great too. But do you already have any of these? They're expensive too, specially the 1959.
Buying the 1987x and adding the mod won't be expensive as the SB? The 1959 + mod will be more expensive than SB, don't you think?

I saw you have a JMP. Do you like it? What mod did you do?

I can buy a used 1987x for about $1200 and then mod it with the Kitchen Sink mod for $700. With shipping it'll be $2200. The Smallbox is $3500 including shipping in Europe.

The JMP I have is a 3-channel special mod made by a Swedish amp guru called Tommy Folkesson. He's famous in Europe for his mods. My amp is the only one done with this special mod. The biggest mods he's doing is called MK and now it's numbered as MKVI. Mine is a hybrid between the MKII, MKVI and the Eternal Classic mod. The mod is the MKII made 20 years ago, but updated with the low-end from the new Eternal Classic mod and the string seperation/punch from the MKVI mod. Then it's futher customized to have a wider EQ-range plus a 3-way switch for "bite". This can be set on soft, normal and fat. Another difference between his MK-mod and mine is that my amp is less compressed and more open sounding.

Channel 1 goes from clean to the best Plexi sound you can imagine. Think Angus Young/George Lynch.
Channel 2 goes from Dirty Shirley to Smallbox BE-channel. (refering to various clips on Youtube as Doug Rappoport and Sean Ashe)
Channel 3 is like the BE with smoother gain and added mid-boost. But if I put the Bite switch on Fat it sounds like the SS100 as demostrated by Doug Rappoport.

I LOVE my amp. It's the best sounding amp I've ever played. I've owned some great amps like Bogners, Cornfords, Diezels, Mesas, Elmwood M90 and some Marshalls and this one beats them all.
I have a friend who's been playing Friedmans a lot and he's telling me my amp is like a hybrid between the Smallbox, Dirty Shirley and the SS100 and when I've been listening to the clips on Youtube I'm willing to agree. The reason I want a Friedman too is the famous GAS. But I won't sell my amp. This one's a keeper.

I would definitely go with the smallbox. The mod will never sounds as friedman as the friedman it self.
