Smallbox gain on clean channel

Just received my smallbox combo.
Only had 10 minutes on it during my lunch break so far, so maybe I am asking too soon.

Just wondering about the gain on the clean channel. I cranked it and wasn't really getting very much break up.
Do I just need to run the volume louder ?
I was hoping to get all my tones at lower volumes as well as louder.

thanks!

Turn up the volume. Mine rocks pretty hard but i have the volume at 4 through my torpedo live. You may need to boost it to get it really rockin hard. I would say old school acdc when the volume is cranked with no boost. I love it with a klon or koko boost.

That's just what I am looking for with the gain cranked.
I'll have some time on it tonight.

Spending a lot of time on the amp now

Really can't get the clean channel to break up into AC/DC territory without an OD. Which is exactly what I don't want

Any ideas?

Playing a PRS custom 24 with pretty hot pickups.

Thanks

What volume are you at on the master? Do You have the bright switch engaged at all? Also which acdc album are you thinking  . Seriously though ch 2 may be where you want to be. Once you get the master over noon then the power amp is really kicking hard. I prefer it around 4 or 5 so i can still get a clean sound. Try these eq settings as well. I keep my bass around 8 mids at 6 treb and pres at noon or "5". I personally max out both gain sides and use my volume know to get lower gain sounds.

I think you might have a bad preamp tube or something like this. I have a Smallbox combo and the Plexi Channel with the gain on 10 is pretty much AC/DC with my PRS 408 with the volume anywhere above 2.

I'm just looking for Highway to hell type gain on this channel.
This thing is frickin LOUD
I'd say band volume for me is going to be at about 4 on the dial.
I'm going as high as 6 or more right now for testing and tried the bright switch in all positions.
Seems a little bright with the knobs at Noon and the bass at 8
The Channel seems just a little lifeless overall

Which preamp tube should I try swapping first ?

Appreciate the help!

I use my settings like this on my combo with my PRS 408: Bass on 8, Mids, Treble and Presence around 4.

Check this out (Plexi on 10 to play AC/DC, BE on 8 to play VH and Sat switch on the play No More Tears)!

Nice!

Exactly the gain I'm looking for at the beginning of that video!
And I'm not getting there . Not even close.
Kind of disappointed.

But you know you can get it! I didn´t change anything on mine. Not a preamp tube. It is completely stock (even the mod, since it was ordered this way). You should wait Dave´s answer. He will show up here anytime soon. Or send him an email.

I had the exact same issue with mine. I swapped out the preamp tubes, and it roared to life.

I'll have to give that a shot then!
Thanks

Might want to swap the first preamp tube. Gain on 10 with a humbucker on channel 1 is AC/DC which is light crunch.

I think one of the problems with the small box gain discussion especially when dealing with the plexi ch is people forget what ACDC crunch is. Go listen to an isolated guitar track and that will get you close. That is if your turning the volume up! If you are having trouble getting it where you want to be after the preamp swamp try a klon type pedal. I haven't found anything i liked better to take the plexi side into higher gain territory,.

Thanks for all the replies.
I had a problem with my signal chain and that caused this issue.

It's fixed and now I can see what all the fuss is about.
This amp rocks and roars!!

Now I'm saying "there may be too much gain" !!!
Not really, I'm sure I can tame it.
Only had a short t time with it since fixing the issue, but I'm definitely getting that crunch on the clean channel even with the gain backed off to about 7 or 8 on the dial.

Thanks again all !

What exactly was the problem with the signal chain ?

A little embarrassed to say.......
On my wireless unit (which has been flawless) the knob on the back got turned all the way off not letting enough signal through.
I was an idiot for not finding it out sooner.

Whenever there's an issue, best thing to do is plug directly in the amp to isolate it.
