SmallBox Impedance selector question.

I purchased a new SmallBox about 6 months ago. When I first got it, day 1, I set it up, and went to set the impedance, and I noticed that the selector switch was not aligned with the numbers 4 8 16, it was pretty much 180 degrees opposite. I turned it, and the knob would spin around 360 degrees, either way. I found the “clicks” and got it lined up, and it seemed to work fine. Today it got out of alignment again, I have to be real careful when using it.

Anybody know if I can open the amp up and tighten this up or if it is broken and I need to have it serviced?

Thanks,
Matt

I just got a new SmallBox and have the same problem. It's just the knob, not the actual selector switch so no need to open the amp up. You may be able to just tighten the set screw on the knob tight enough to get it working for a while.

I emailed Dave and he said he's sourcing a new knob to take care of this.

Thanks for the info. Mine is the whole switch, I did check the set screw, it's weird how the whole thing will go around 360 and beyond, still seems to function fine, just occurred to me though that it may be twisting some wires up in there. Hmmmm

Yeah, I did open mine up to make sure it wasn't the switch because I was worried I was twisting the whole thing around. Good luck!

Having looked inside I really can't imagine that you're spinning the whole switch beyond 360 degrees without some resistance. The wires going to the switch don't have a ton of slack. The set screw may feel tight and still let the knob spin. Mine will spin even with the screw cranked down pretty tight.

I had the exact same thing happen to me. The knob would twist 360 degrees but still hit the 3 clicks but in the wrong spots with the knob.

To the OP, I'd take to knob off and twist the naked pot post. I will also say that the knob for that isn't the greatest.

Thanks Plank, thats a good idea, I'll take the knob off, less chance to accidently bump it into the wrong setting.

Have the same problem with my small box combo.

Is there any fix for this?

I'm getting it to click but it's so out if alignment I'm not sure which setting its on.

Thanks

I replaced the knob with a spare Marshall-style one I had. It looks stupid, but it's on the back and it works. I put a mark on the side of the knob with a Sharpie so I can just look down from the top of the amp and tell what position it's in. Dave had mentioned something about finding knobs that work better but I haven't heard anything recently.

Sweetwater is going to exchange my amp based on the selector switch.
I didn't ask but they offered to exchange it so I went for it.

Why would you do that? great now they will send it back to us for a knob and it will cost us shipping both ways. it is also possible that the new amp will not have the newer knob on it and will eventually have the same issue.

I actually didn't want to but didn't see your reply till after I dropped it off.
Like I said it was their idea, not mine.
do you want their reps info so you can catch it before they send it back to you ?

Dave was kind enough to drop one of the new style knobs in the mail. I got it the other day and it works much better. Great customer service, even for the little stuff. It was a minor annoyance, but I'm glad to have it fixed since I'm constantly going back and forth between 8 and 16 ohm cabs.
