I just can't get enough of this amp. I had some footswitch issues for the first several months (Dave's customer service and communication was awesome, and he sent me a new footswitch, but I had my local tech fix it when he changed tubes for me---no biggie). When I was having footswitch issues I just ran the BE channel and adjusted the volume on my guitar, and that in and of itself was perfect for my classic rock trio.

Fast forward a few months and I'm in a new band that plays weddings, school reunions, local festivals, etc. the diversity of our music has changed, and we have keys and another guitar player. The other guitarist plays bright fender amps, and I was having trouble cutting through the mix with the BE channel...then I tried diming the gain on the plexi channel and using a rockett archer for leads. DEAR GOD. What an awesome, cutting tone. Not only that, but I just roll off the volume and get bell-like cleans. Beautiful!

I have been a pedal guy forever, but I discovered that I don't need to goose the BE channel. Just run the gain full out and there's your tone. Just awesome sustain and dynamics. It's just an incredible Swiss Army knife of an amp. What's more is that when my tech changed my tubes he raved about the quality of the handwiring and tone. And he works on A LOT of amps.

To wrap up this long-winded post, I just want to thank Dave for making amazing products and running an impeccable business. I look forward to checking out many new amps in the future and watching the company continue to grow. My smallbox isn't going anywhere, though!

The Smallbox is awesome all by itself or with drive and effects pedals. A LOT of great tones on tap in this little two channel monster. It checks pretty much all of the boxes for what I want or need in an amp. External bias points would be nice, but I can live without them. I am not aware of another amp out there that I could replace it with and still be satisfied. I prefer 50 watt amps and this one is the king.

I do recommend a koko boost though for a mid boost i leave the level at unity and just boost the mids!
