"Smaller Builder" High Gain Amp Recommendation?

Looking for a versatile channel-switching amp that has a great clean sound and gets a high gain sound for the 80s modded marshall as well as a modern metal type sound (meshuggah, mastodon, trivium). Looking primarily at something from the smaller amp builders like fortin, peters, Rhodes, mako, etc. Not looking for a super compressed sound and also want an amp that responds faster than a typical marshall, but not a super-tight/OCD patient injected with norepinephrine- response. For people who have run the gamut of amps what would you recommend?

I really like my Peters. It's more of a modern high gain design. He does have a channel that's more for an 80's thing. You could get a triple channel model with clean, 80's, and modern high-gain.

Not just because I have one for sale, but the Friedman SS100 fits that to a tee. GREAT cleans (really, much better than any Friedman has done yet), perfect 80/90's tones in gain mode, tight metal with the boost on, and into modern metal with a little clean boost on top of the boost mode. Toss an EQ in the loop and get as deep into modern land as you can get.

I bet that Artemis would do the trick too.

Lickliter XD100. There's one in the member classifieds.

There is. Dan Gower Killer Kali for sale. Henning Cherry Bomb.

Save a quick grand and get a great amp built by people that actually play that music.

My go to is a Rhodes Gemini for the last 9 months.

The first two that came to mind were Peters and Baron, but the others mentions are terrific too.

The fortin meathead has me intrigued, but it's also $5.5K. Anyone have experience? Is it a little too "fast" in its response for what I'm looking for?

THIS!!! Oh man!!!

Sounds like a cranked JMP to me. Either 1959 or JCM800. I don't hear anything "modern" or "high-gain" there. Sounds good though.

Yeah, agree with the above. Appreciate the suggestion but also need the amp to go comfortably into modern metal stuff w/out external boost pedals, etc. With regards to the VHT/Fryette stuff I've read that it responds REALLY tightly, which is great for some people's preferences but probably not looking for something with that fast of a response. I could be way off base here though.
